The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Seu Braga and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Almer lands a nice shot that snaps Botanovic's head back.
Thiago Almer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Botanovic looks to land a body kick but Almer moved away.
Almer fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Almer throws a hook to the side of Botanovic's head but Botanovic sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Almer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Botanovic has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Almer has managed to get both his arms back between Botanovic's legs - danger averted.

Almer lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Botanovic lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Almer has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Almer and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Almer can do anything to dispel that myth.
