PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ted Scheckler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ragnar Hjelmslev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hjelmslev has chosen Champion as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ragnar Hjelmslev was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ted Scheckler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ragnar Hjelmslev!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Jonathan Paton and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scheckler is looking to chop away at Hjelmslev's legs.
A clash of legs there as Scheckler blocks the low kick.
Scheckler shoots in for a takedown but Hjelmslev shows good takedown defense.
Hjelmslev throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Scheckler throws a nice outside leg kick.
Scheckler fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Hjelmslev.
Hjelmslev looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Hjelmslev scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Scheckler takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Scheckler uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hjelmslev.
Ragnar Hjelmslev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hjelmslev does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Hjelmslev lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Hjelmslev on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Hjelmslev fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Scheckler drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Scheckler wants to pass the guard but Hjelmslev is keeping the position.

Scheckler drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hjelmslev looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hjelmslev looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hjelmslev!

Scheckler has his foot on Hjelmslev's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hjelmslev works his way back into a safe position though.

Scheckler working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hjelmslev doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hjelmslev manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Scheckler has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hjelmslev can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Scheckler bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hjelmslev's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Hjelmslev fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Scheckler has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Hjelmslev throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A combination from Hjelmslev does no damage.
Hjelmslev looks to score with a jab to the body but Scheckler is just out of range.
Scheckler shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hjelmslev as he jumps to the side.

Scheckler misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Hjelmslev.
Ragnar Hjelmslev seems to be getting the better of the standup.
The fighters circling - Hjelmslev throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Hjelmslev fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Scheckler is out of range.

Scheckler throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hjelmslev's waist but Hjelmslev gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Scheckler off to one side.
Hjelmslev lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Scheckler misses with a low kick.
Hjelmslev finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Ragnar Hjelmslev is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hjelmslev moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Scheckler walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Hjelmslev checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Hjelmslev feints and then cracks Scheckler's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Scheckler down.

Ragnar Hjelmslev comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hjelmslev has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
