PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Skelter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wayne Andrews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Skelter comes to the cage accompanied by Helter Skelter. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jimmy Skelter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Wayne Andrews!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Skelter shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Andrews eats them both and turns towards Skelter to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Skelter fails in his attempt to clinch.
Andrews on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Skelter. Skelter obviously looking to wear him down.
Andrews scores with a three punch combo!
Skelter lands a nice shot to the body.
Skelter throws a right and a left that Andrews avoids nicely.
Skelter tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Andrews is able to avoid easily.

Skelter closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Andrews's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Andrews is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Skelter is aware though and is defending well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Andrews working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Skelter doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Skelter manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Skelter is looking to work some ground and pound but Andrews has wrist control.
Andrews wants to sweep but no luck.
Skelter stands and throws Andrews's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Skelter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Andrews, who protects the arm well.
Andrews is trying to improve his position.
Skelter lands a decent elbow from side control.
Andrews looks to move to half guard but instead Skelter has passed into mount! Damn!
Andrews tries to reverse the position but Skelter maintains control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Andrews bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Skelter wants to sweep here but Andrews controlling him for the moment.

Andrews postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Skelter is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Andrews, into his guard.

Skelter wants to pass the guard but Andrews is keeping the position.

Andrews escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Skelter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Andrews keeping full guard, as Skelter tries to pass.
Skelter passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Skelter cracks Andrews with a big right hand but Andrews just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Andrews tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Skelter wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Andrews is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Skelter wants to free his trapped foot but Andrews is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Skelter is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Andrews is pressing down on Skelter's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Andrews is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Skelter defends well.
Skelter content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Skelter is looking to work some ground and pound but Andrews has wrist control.

Andrews looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Skelter passes into side control.
Skelter wants to control but Andrews is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jimmy Skelter will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Skelter lands a head kick. Andrews smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Skelter tries to bum rush Andrews with a series of wild strikes but Andrews uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Skelter counters with a stiff right hand.
Andrews connects with a body shot that sends Skelter's belly button to the back.
Skelter fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Andrews manages to avoid it.
Andrews dodges the punch combination from Skelter.
Andrews throws a right and a left that both miss.
Skelter throws a left and a right that both miss
and Andrews counters with a two punch combo.
Jimmy Skelter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Skelter connects with a solid leg kick.
Sloppy strikes from Skelter. Those never looked like landing.
Skelter misses with an uppercut.
Skelter dodges the punch combination from Andrews.
Andrews swinging wildly here.
Skelter throws a series of punches but Andrews moves out of range.
Andrews swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Skelter takes the fight into the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Skelter is trying to stall.
Andrews lands a right hand that snaps the head of Skelter backwards.

Andrews breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Andrews thows a left - swing and a miss!
Andrews throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Andrews misses with an uppercut
and Skelter counters with a slapping leg kick.
Andrews is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Skelter.

Skelter feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Skelter wants to control from the top but Andrews keeps moving.
Skelter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Andrews swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Skelter landing with the ground and pound.
Andrews tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Andrews is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Skelter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Andrews swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Skelter passes Andrews's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Skelter scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Skelter is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Andrews is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Skelter looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Skelter wants to control but Andrews is keeping him busy.

Skelter changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Andrews looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Andrews is still in real trouble! Can Skelter finish him?
