PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ty Angle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce Banner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Banner is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by xavier rudd - energy song. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Bruce Banner enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ty Angle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Bruce Banner!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Ryoma Takatsuka and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Angle.
Angle shoots and misses
and Banner counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Banner throws a hook but Angle blocks it.
Angle is looking to clinch but Banner is avoiding it.
Angle shoots in and drives through. Banner sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ty Angle. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Angle shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Banner is trying desperately to improve position.

Angle goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Banner is on top in guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Banner's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Banner engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Angle wants to sweep here but Banner controlling him for the moment.

Banner slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Angle looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Angle looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Banner connects with a couple of short punches.
Banner trying to control but Angle is working from the bottom.

Banner wants to control from the top but Angle keeps moving.
Banner controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Banner cracks Angle with a solid left hand.

Angle is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Banner wants to pass the guard but Angle is keeping the position.
Banner has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Banner wants to control from the top but Angle keeps moving.

Angle has his foot on Banner's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Banner works his way back into a safe position though.
Banner passes Angle's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Banner is working for a submission of some sort.
Angle has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Banner is working away from the top position though.

Banner seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Angle does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Banner stops Angle from getting back to his feet.

Banner looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Banner thows a huge punch but Angle dodges it nicely.
Banner perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Banner is thwarting Angle's attempts to control the position.

Banner seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Angle does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Angle makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Angle.
Banner tries to free his leg and advance position but Angle is retaining full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Banner's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Banner distracts Angle with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Angle not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Banner avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Banner accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Banner scoring with some ground and pound.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Angle looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Angle keeping moving, preventing Banner from controlling successfully.
Banner is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruce Banner dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Angle with a poor takedown

so Banner counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Angle has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Banner can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Banner connects with a couple of short punches.

Angle is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Banner is aware though and is defending well.
Banner is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Banner lands a couple of elbows.
Banner is in close to Angle's body, working some short punches and elbows.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Banner content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Banner controls from within his opponent's guard.
Angle trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Banner postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Angle is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Banner defends well.

Banner is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Banner stands up over Angle, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Angle is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Banner defends well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Angle pushes a forearm under Banner's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Banner is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ty Angle!
Ty Angle gave a mention to FNF Energy & Stamina - Sale! in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
