Smith comes to the cage accompanied by Hank Williams Jr - A Country Boy Can Survive. Topohanta comes into a darkened arena with his song building. DJ Proteus : Illuminati kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Pekka Topohanta acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Smith jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Smith takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Smith misses with an uppercut.

Smith gets a double leg takedown into Topohanta's guard.
Smith distracts Topohanta with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Topohanta swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Topohanta wants to stand and escape but Smith is having none of it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Smith throws a body punch but Topohanta moves out of range.
Smith takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Smith looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Topohanta is fending him off so far but Smith persists. Nope, Topohanta circles away and we're back to standing.

Slopey Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Smith misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Topohanta displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Smith.

Smith dives in and grabs Topohanta's left leg, looking for a takedown. Topohanta pushes down on Smith's head and hops out.

Smith tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Topohanta swivels and escapes.

Smith fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Topohanta sprawls well initially but Smith persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Smith is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Smith escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Topohanta gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Topohanta must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
