PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Yankowsky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamie Gaines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Jimmy Yankowsky has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jimmy Yankowsky!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jamie Gaines!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yankowsky fails with an attempt to clinch.
Yankowsky throws a head kick that misses.
Gaines shoots in for a takedown but Yankowsky shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Gaines fails with a takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Gaines or perhaps it was just good defense by Yankowsky which made him look bad.
Jimmy Yankowsky has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jamie Gaines.
Gaines shoots in looking for a takedown but Yankowsky manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gaines's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Gaines tries to score a power double leg takedown but Yankowsky sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gaines somewhat.
Yankowsky keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Gaines shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Gaines is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Yankowsky tries to kick Gaines off but Gaines keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Gaines is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Yankowsky has managed to free his arm - good work.

Gaines looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gaines prevents Yankowsky from standing back up.

Gaines is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Gaines is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Yankowsky defends it well.
Gaines not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Yankowsky might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Yankowsky has one foot on Gaines's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Gaines throws a solid leg kick but Yankowsky takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Gaines.
Gaines shoots in but no luck this time.

The fight stays on the outside here - Yankowsky looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Gaines closes this distance looking for a takedown but Yankowsky circles away.

Gaines closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Yankowsky did well to prevent Gaines getting side control.

Gaines is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Yankowsky doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gaines.

Gaines thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Yankowsky's head.

Gaines is working for a kimura here but Yankowsky manages to reverse the position and he's now in Gaines's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Yankowsky wants to get up but he can't break Gaines's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Gaines looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jamie Gaines dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Gaines throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Yankowsky's waist but Yankowsky gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gaines off to one side.

Yankowsky clinches.
Yankowsky lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Yankowsky lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Gaines has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Yankowsky avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Yankowsky working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Gaines goes for a takedown attempt but Yankowsky pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gaines is defended easily by Yankowsky.

Yankowsky tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gaines tries for a takedown but Yankowsky sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Gaines is breathing heavily.

Gaines is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Yankowsky's half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
