Alves comes into the arena with Guerreiro by Curumin blaring out of the sound system. Edwards has chosen WASP - Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Guilherme Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Edwards!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves moves in looking to clinch but Edwards pushes him off.

Edwards throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Edwards misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Alves fails in his attempt to clinch.
Edwards throws a nice inside leg kick.

and Edwards counters with a good low kick that Alves was not able to check.
Edwards stuffs the takedown attempt from Alves. Alves gets slowly back to his feet.
Alves doesn't manage to clinch there - Edwards circles away.

Edwards connects with a high kick.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Alves with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Edwards to score with a decent uppercut.

Edwards throws a sloppy head kick and Alves moves out of range easily.
Alves on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Edwards throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Alves sees it coming and avoids it easily.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Alves checks a leg kick.
Alves moves in looking to clinch but Edwards pushes him off.

Edwards swings wildly with an uppercut but Alves uses good head movement to avoid it.
Edwards misses with a punch on the inside.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Alves.
Alves is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Edwards lands an uppercut.
Edwards misses with a short punch on the inside.
Edwards creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Alves lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Edwards struggles to land a body shot inside as Alves controls his hands.

Alves pulls guard effortlessly.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Edwards avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Alves had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Edwards defends it easily.

Alves is looking for a triangle but Edwards pushes his legs off easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Edwards working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Edwards wants to control from the top but Alves keeps moving.

Alves looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Alves bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Edwards's guard.
Edwards looking to hit a scissor sweep but Alves is one step ahead there.
Alves keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Edwards's head.
Alves might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Alves throwing strikes but missing.

Alves postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Edwards is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Alves, into his guard.

Alves is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Alves is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Edwards rolls with it to try and escape but Alves cranks on the arm and Edwards is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
