PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Neil NaLeans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Sinatra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Neil NaLeans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 8 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Sinatra!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
NaLeans takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
NaLeans throws a low kick but Sinatra moves out of range easily.
NaLeans fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sinatra manages to avoid it.
Sinatra displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as NaLeans throws out the jab.
NaLeans connects with a good right hand that stumbles Sinatra. Sinatra circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Sinatra drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Sinatra stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. NaLeans swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sinatra stands and throws NaLeans's legs to the side, diving into side control.
NaLeans managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Sinatra.
Sinatra in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Sinatra is trying to get an arm triangle but NaLeans is defending well.
Sinatra has knee on belly and moves into mount.

NaLeans is trying to escape the mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sinatra scoring with strikes but NaLeans is staying in there.
Sinatra sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
NaLeans avoids a series of strikes thrown by Sinatra.
Sinatra trying to control but he's not successful this time.
NaLeans holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Sinatra tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Sinatra is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Sinatra punching from mount but NaLeans doing a good job of avoiding damage.
NaLeans is squirming around, avoiding Sinatra's attempts to control the action.
NaLeans tries to reverse the position but Sinatra maintains control.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

NaLeans is positioning himself well to prevent Sinatra advancing to mount.

NaLeans avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Sinatra slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

NaLeans is not content to let Sinatra control the position.

Sinatra tries for a kimura but NaLeans is defending well.
Sinatra tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Sinatra scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at NaLeans to see if he's OK.
Sinatra wants to lay and pray for a moment but NaLeans keeps working.
NaLeans prevents Sinatra from moving into mount.
You can see the frustration on NaLeans's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
NaLeans struggling a bit here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sinatra looks up at the clock and then as NaLeans takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Sinatra smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
NaLeans prevents Sinatra from improving position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! NaLeans's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Sinatra closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. NaLeans quickly recovers to half guard.

Frank Sinatra has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sinatra thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Sinatra's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Sinatra looking to sit in guard and control but NaLeans gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Sinatra utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sinatra is on top in guard.

NaLeans trying to keep a closed guard but Sinatra is proving a slippery customer.

Sinatra is pushing down on NaLeans's leg trying to pass to half guard. NaLeans is fighting to maintain full guard but Sinatra has managed to sneak the leg through.

NaLeans preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Sinatra wants to lay and pray for a moment but NaLeans keeps working.
Sinatra wants to free his trapped foot but NaLeans is holding on for dear life with his legs.

NaLeans ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sinatra moves away.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sinatra takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Sinatra showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


NaLeans throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Sinatra throws a shot from downtown. NaLeans moves away and avoids it.
Sinatra throws the left hand but NaLeans avoids the punch easily.
NaLeans misses with a wild body shot.
Sinatra uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from NaLeans.
NaLeans comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
NaLeans looks to land a right hand but Sinatra moved out of range.
Sinatra throws a jab but it's blocked by NaLeans.
Good standup being displayed there by Sinatra as he connects with a hook.
NaLeans tries to land a front kick but Sinatra steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Neil NaLeans is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Frank Sinatra is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sinatra tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Sinatra can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as NaLeans is looking to escape.
Sinatra takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Let's hope that Sinatra has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Sinatra can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as NaLeans is looking to escape.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Frank Sinatra hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Sinatra throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Neil NaLeans has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
NaLeans throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
NaLeans leaves Sinatra with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Sinatra loads up on a big right hand but NaLeans slips the punch.
