PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Yuri Nate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ping Pong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yuri Nate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ping Pong!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Wagner Zegers and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pong tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Nate counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Pong's guard now.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Nate working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Pong's head.
Nate is looking to work some ground and pound but Pong has wrist control.
Pong wants to sweep but no luck.
Nate postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Pong is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Nate is controlling him.
Nate is in close to Pong's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nate works over Pong with some ground and pound from guard.
Nate wants to pass the guard but Pong is keeping the position.
Pong avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Nate postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pong keeping full guard, as Nate tries to pass.
Nate postures up in Pong's guard and throws a big left but Pong blocks it.
Pong keeping moving, preventing Nate from controlling successfully.
Nate engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Nate stands up over Pong, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Pong looking for a guillotine here but Nate defends easily.
Nate has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Nate scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nate with a nice head shot there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nate passes into half guard.
Pong won't allow Nate to pass to mount.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Nate connects with a nice short shot to Pong's temple.

Nate looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Nate looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Pong with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Pong is staying active underneath Nate, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Nate sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Pong defending well though.

Nate perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Nate working over Pong with some ground and pound. Pong looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Nate scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Nate wants to pass the guard but Pong is defending well.

Pong on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Pong really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nate. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Pong is looking to control Nate's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pong avoid being mounted?
Nate passes the guard and advances to mount!
Nate breaks from Pong's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Pong squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Pong is still in real trouble! Can Nate finish him?
Nate lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Whack. That's a big, big shot from Nate! Pong is out cold! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Yuri Nate!
Yuri Nate looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'Que? Que pasa?'.
