Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jay Hunter!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Drew Down!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunter misses with a takedown attempt - Down sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Hunter shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hunter showed some decent athleticism there.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Hunter is trying to work for a kimura but Down is defending well.
Down blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hunter.

Hunter is looking for a kimura but Down is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hunter to get the leverage.

Hunter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Down is just riding it out for now. Hunter eventually gives up the hold.

Hunter feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Down is squirming around, avoiding Hunter's attempts to control the action.

Hunter postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Down looks a forlorn figure.
Down wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Hunter.
Hunter sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Down tries to hold on but Hunter pushes him away.
Hunter tries to control but Down wriggling away.
Down really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hunter. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hunter is landing with some decent strikes but Down is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Hunter is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Down can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Down wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Hunter.

Hunter is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Down can do to turn this around?

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Poor strikes thrown by Hunter there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Hunter is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Down has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Down!
Hunter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Hunter bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Down's guard.

Hunter misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Hunter fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hunter goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Down turns into him and now he's in Hunter's guard.
Hunter manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
