PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jason Orpik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wanderlei Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Orpik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wanderlei Silva!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Orpik drives through with a takedown into Silva's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Orpik is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Silva keeping moving, preventing Orpik from controlling successfully.

Silva is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Orpik defends well.

Orpik got a little sloppy there for a moment and Silva has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Orpik has managed to get both his arms back between Silva's legs - danger averted.

Silva is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Orpik asserts his dominance and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on Silva's face as Orpik controls the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Orpik prevents Silva from escaping the position.
Orpik remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silva is pushing Orpik's head away, looking to escape. Orpik manages to hold on to the position though.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Orpik wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Silva, who protects the arm well.

Orpik working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Orpik staying calm.

Orpik is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Silva has escaped the position, nice work there.
Orpik has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Orpik is putting a hurting on Silva here, landing some big shots from side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Orpik tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Orpik is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Silva knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Orpik postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silva is looking for a sweep.
Orpik prevents Silva from escaping the position.
The ground and pound from Orpik seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Orpik moves into full mount!

Orpik has control of Silva's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Silva regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Orpik postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Silva looks a forlorn figure.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Orpik takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Silva in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Orpik scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Silva?
Silva tries to buck Orpik off but he can't manage it.
Silva looks gassed!
Orpik is landing with some decent strikes but Silva is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Orpik lands a nice shot to the head.

Orpik working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Silva is rocked!
Silva is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Orpik has taken his back.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Orpik throwing wild punches that miss their target.

Orpik has got one arm under Silva's chin. This could be trouble... Silva trying to control the other hand but Orpik gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Silva has tapped out! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jason Orpik!
After the big win, Jason Orpik made sure to do all the important stuff like thanking his sponsors Catch Clothing and telling the interviewer how much he loves him.
