PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eddy Maiden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gregory Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maiden kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Fear of the dark. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eddy Maiden!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Gregory Stone!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Russell Pearce and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Maiden or perhaps it was just good defense by Stone which made him look bad.

Stone fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Maiden, pushing him back against the cage.
Maiden wants a takedown.
Stone jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Maiden walks away with a smile on his face. Stone gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Stone has taken the fight to the clinch.

Stone breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Maiden tries to land a leg kick but Stone saw it coming and moves away.
Stone misses with a low kick.
Maiden pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Stone misses with a double jab.
Maiden clobbers Stone with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Stone throws a low kick but Maiden moves out of range easily.
Stone thows a left - swing and a miss!
Danga de danga de dang - Stone scores with a four punch combination!
Stone misses with a wild combination.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Stone instigates a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Stone's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Stone pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Stone wants to land a leg kick but Maiden is out of range.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Stone lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Maiden has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Maiden and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Stone attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

Maiden is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Stone's half guard.
Stone keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Maiden is trying to work for a kimura but Stone is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stone is defending against the submission attempts here by Maiden.

Maiden seems to be looking for submissions.

Stone trying to control from the bottom.
Maiden working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Maiden throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Maiden prevents Stone from improving his position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Stone trying to hold on to Maiden's head to control him but Maiden postures up.
Stone is trying to stand back up but Maiden is controlling him

Maiden is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Stone sees it coming and defends easily.
Stone is trying to stand.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Maiden scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Maiden is trying to control. Stone wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Stone tries to kick Maiden off but Maiden keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Stone looks gassed!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Maiden scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Maiden not doing much here.

Maiden is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Stone defends it well.
Maiden landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Maiden is working for a submission of some sort.
Maiden content to control rather than advance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Maiden working the head and body with strikes.
Maiden winds up and cracks Stone with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Maiden is nestled in close to Stone, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Stone looks like he's trying to stand up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stone is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Stone has hold of Maiden's hands but Maiden slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Maiden is looking to take a break and control but Stone is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maiden performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Maiden lands strikes from half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Maiden keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Maiden seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Maiden thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddy Maiden dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Maiden connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Stone's hands.


Stone is rocked!
Maiden lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Stone is still on wobbly legs! Can Maiden finish him?
Maiden blocks a low kick nicely.
Stone gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Maiden counters with a nice uppercut.

Maiden pushes Stone up against the cage in a clinch.

Stone's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Maiden counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Maiden.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Maiden thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Maiden trying to control but Stone is working from the bottom.
Stone wants to sweep but no luck.
Stone is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Maiden is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Stone is breathing heavily.
Maiden lands a couple of elbows.
Stone not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Stone keeping full guard, as Maiden tries to pass.
Stone controls Maiden momentarily but Maiden frees himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gregory Stone was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Maiden dips to his left and cracks Stone with an uppercut!
Stone throws a nice looking combination but Maiden bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Maiden shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Maiden gets to his feet and stands over Stone, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Stone felt that one! Maiden unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Stone from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Eddy Maiden!
A very excited looking Eddy Maiden made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
