PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Buddy Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hannibal Soze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Guy comes to the cage accompanied by Buddy Guy - Five Years . Soze has chosen Outside - To Forgive but not Forget as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Buddy Guy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hannibal Soze!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Russell Pearce and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A swing and a miss from Guy.
Soze's jab looks to have found its range, popping Guy under the eye.
Guy fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Soze digs a good body shot into Guy's ribs.
Guy throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Guy throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Guy stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Guy wants it to stay on the feet.
Soze lands a two punch combo.
Guy tries to clinch up but Soze circles away and keeps his distance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Guy waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Soze.
Soze throws a looping overhand right but Guy ducks down to avoid it.
Soze shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Guy as he avoids it easily.
Soze ducks under a wild hook from Guy.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Soze throws a nice looking combination but Guy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Guy misses with a double jab

and Soze counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Guy's guard now.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Soze seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Soze throwing strikes from guard but Guy blocks nicely.
Guy avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Soze postures up.
Soze postures up and lands a big shot to Guy's brow.
Soze working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Guy's head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Soze is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Guy keeping moving, preventing Soze from controlling successfully.

Soze drops back looking for a leg! Guy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Guy manages to kick Soze off! Soze jumps back into Guy's guard.
Soze is looking to work some ground and pound but Guy has wrist control.

Guy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Soze's guard.
Soze controls Guy momentarily but Guy frees himself.

Soze is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Guy is aware though and is defending well.

Guy has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Soze is proving hard to escape from.

Soze looking for a guillotine here but Guy defends easily.

Soze working for a triangle but Guy defends it easily.
Soze has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Soze is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Guy is aware though and is defending well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Guy wants to pass the guard but Soze is keeping the position.
Soze is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Soze has his foot on Guy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Guy works his way back into a safe position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Soze has his hands on Guy's head, controlling the position.

Soze is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Guy defends well.

Hannibal Soze dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Soze throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Guy throws out a loose jab but Soze uses good head movement to avoid it.
Guy with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Soze misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Guy.

Soze lands a jab to the head.
Guy tries to clinch up but Soze circles away and keeps his distance.

Guy gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Guy swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Soze has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Guy is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
A bit of stalling here from Guy.
Guy doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Guy scores with a shot to the side of Soze's head.

Soze has Guy pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Guy manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Soze.

Guy lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Guy is pressed up against the cage. Soze has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Guy down to the mat. Guy avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Buddy Guy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hannibal Soze.
Guy throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Soze throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Guy's waist but Guy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Soze off to one side.
Guy stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Guy wants it to stay on the feet.
Guy throws a right and a left that Soze avoids nicely.
Guy wants to clinch up but Soze keeps it at a distance.

Guy misses with a wild combination.

Soze looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Guy is fending him off so far but Soze persists. Nope, Guy circles away and we're back to standing.
Soze tries to score a power double leg takedown but Guy sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Soze somewhat.

and Guy cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Hannibal Soze has been cut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Soze throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Guy on the side of the head.
Soze scores with a jab to the head.
Guy uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Soze.
Buddy Guy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Guy misses with a body shot.
Hannibal Soze seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Soze circles away from the clinch attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Soze throws a right hand that Guy ducks under and follows up with a left that Guy also avoids with ease.
Soze missing with a left hand there. Guy was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Guy misses the jab.
Guy tries to close the distance and clinch but Soze swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Guy tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Soze manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Soze gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Soze tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Guy is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Soze buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Soze!! Soze is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Guy throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Buddy Guy!
A relieved looking Buddy Guy thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
