Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Virgil Kowalford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hazle Nutt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Virgil Kowalford!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hazle Nutt!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Anthony Taglia and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kowalford shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Nutt eats them both and turns towards Kowalford to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Kowalford displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nutt.

Nutt closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Kowalford moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kowalford is trying to control the position but Nutt postures up.
Nutt controls from within his opponent's guard.
Nutt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kowalford swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Nutt is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kowalford has his foot on Nutt's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nutt works his way back into a safe position though.
Nutt wants to control from the top but Kowalford keeps moving.

Kowalford escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nutt gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Hazle Nutt was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Nutt shoots in but Kowalford avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Nutt shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kowalford's guard.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Nutt drops back looking for a leg! Kowalford is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kowalford manages to kick Nutt off! Nutt jumps back into Kowalford's guard.

Nutt stands up and waves to Kowalford to follow him.

Nutt is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kowalford's half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kowalford tries to roll over but Nutt keeps him under control.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Nutt shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kowalford pinned against the cage. Kowalford gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nutt looks for a takedown but Kowalford sprawls well.

Nutt drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kowalford looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kowalford looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kowalford!

Nutt is working to avoid the ground and pound but Kowalford connects with a decent elbow.

Kowalford goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Nutt rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Kowalford's guard! Nice work there by Nutt!
Kowalford wants to sweep here but Nutt controlling him for the moment.
Nutt really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kowalford. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kowalford is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kowalford is trying to control Nutt's posture but Nutt avoids it.
Nutt is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Nutt tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Nutt has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Nutt thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Nutt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kowalford keeps working.

Nutt is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kowalford is aware though and is defending well.

That was a close second round but I would say that Virgil Kowalford will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Nutt shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kowalford napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Nutt wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kowalford, who protects the arm well.
Kowalford is looking to regain half guard here but Nutt keeps moving and retains side control.

Kowalford manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nutt manages to get himself to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nutt can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kowalford throws an elbow that misses. Nutt uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kowalford's guard. Nice move by Nutt!

Nutt might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kowalford kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Well Nutt has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
