Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dyson Edwards!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Maricue Russel!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Reed Andrews and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russel throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Edwards's waist but Edwards gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Russel off to one side.
Russel tries to bum rush Edwards with a series of wild strikes but Edwards uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Edwards bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Edwards.
Edwards fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Russel on the side of the head.
That kick from Edwards tenderised Russel's leg. Russel is trying to keep his angry face on.
Russel fails with a takedown attempt.
Russel needs to keep his hands up - Edwards had a free shot at his head there.
Russel tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Russel fails with the takedown.
Dyson Edwards has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maricue Russel.
Russel blocks a head kick by Edwards.
Russel closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Edwards's guard.
Edwards is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Russel postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round.

Edwards knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Russel on the ground.
Russel trying to control the position from guard on top but Edwards is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Russel postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Russel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Edwards on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Edwards tries to get out of the position.

Russel drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Russel seems to have locked his on tight now - Edwards screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Russel, as he picks up the win!
