PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Leo Vieira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Jayne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jayne has chosen The Doors-People Are Strange as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Leo Vieira!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Patrick Jayne!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vieira pushes Jayne up against the cage in a clinch.
Vieira is trying to stall.

Jayne is trying to trip Vieira. He has hold of a leg but Vieira is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Jayne persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Jayne won't allow Vieira to get back to his feet.
Vieira trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Jayne stays in close to Vieira's body and controls the position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Patrick Jayne wasn't active enough on the ground.

Vieira instigates a clinch.
Vieira prevents a takedown attempt there.

Jayne changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Vieira fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Leo Vieira has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Patrick Jayne.

Vieira gets caught flat footed, as Jayne shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Jayne's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Let's hope that Jayne has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Vieira wants to stand but Jayne is controlling the position.
Vieira can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jayne controls the pace.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Patrick Jayne hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Jayne shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Vieira sprawls well. Vieira wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jayne gets slowly back to his feet.

Vieira has managed to clinch.
Vieira is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Vieira tries to land a knee to the head but Jayne blocks with his arms.
Jayne jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Vieira walks away with a smile on his face. Jayne gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Jayne blocks a head kick by Vieira.
Jayne shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Vieira as he avoids it easily.

Vieira rushes Jayne and presses him up against the cage.
Jayne works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Jayne avoiding damage as Vieira throws knees to the body.
Jayne drops down looking for an ankle pick but Vieira pulls his leg out and moves away.

Jayne drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jayne throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jayne is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jayne's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Patrick Jayne has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Jayne changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Vieira looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Vieira prevents the takedown attempt.

Jayne wants to take the fight to the mat but Vieira manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Jayne manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Vieira manages to get himself to full guard.

Vieira wants to get back to his feet but Jayne is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jayne postures up in Vieira's guard and throws a big left but Vieira blocks it.
Jayne prevents Vieira from getting back to his feet.
Jayne slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Vieira closes the distance and clinches.

Jayne successfully pulls guard.

Vieira is looking to stand up but Jayne won't let him.

Jayne is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Vieira won't allow Jayne to sweep him here.

Vieira is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jayne defends it well.
Vieira wants to stand up but Jayne is controlling the position.
Jayne makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jayne.
Vieira has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jayne is proving hard to escape from.
Jayne is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Jayne is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Vieira would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Vieira is fighting to break Jayne's control of his arms but Jayne is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Vieira tries to free his leg and advance position but Jayne is retaining full guard.

Jayne takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jayne lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Vieira!
Vieira manages to regain half guard whilst avoiding the strikes.

Patrick Jayne comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.

Patrick Jayne really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Hellraiser Fightgear (10$ clothing) logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
