PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Darren Colby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Woo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Darren Colby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Johnny Woo!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Colby throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Woo.
Woo throws a series of punches but Colby moves out of range.
Colby lands a glancing blow to the side of Woo's head.
Woo looks to score with a jab to the body but Colby is just out of range.

Woo drives through with a takedown into guard.
Colby wants to get back to his feet but Woo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Colby working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Woo.
Colby is looking to stand up but Woo isn't so interested in that idea.
Woo trying to control but Colby is working from the bottom.
Woo sitting in guard, not really doing much.
It looks like Woo might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Johnny Woo hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Colby throws out a loose jab but Woo uses good head movement to avoid it.
Colby scores with a decent looking hook.
Colby misses with a straight right.

Colby gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Colby knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Woo on the ground.
Colby wants to get back to his feet but Woo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Woo is looking to work some ground and pound but Colby has wrist control.
Woo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Colby keeping full guard, as Woo tries to pass.
Woo throws a big right hand that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Woo prevents Colby from getting back to his feet.

Woo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Woo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Colby is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Colby trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Woo stays in close to Colby's body and controls the position.
Colby keeping moving, preventing Woo from controlling successfully.
Woo wants to pass the guard but Colby is keeping the position.
Woo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Johnny Woo wasn't active enough on the ground.
Woo uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Colby.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Colby slaps away a takedown attempt from Woo, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Colby scores with a crisp jab that stopped Woo in his tracks.
Colby getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Colby lands a head shot.
Woo with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Colby to score with a decent uppercut.
Woo's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Colby connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Woo scrambles back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A jab from Colby misses.
Woo drops his hands momentarily and Colby takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Colby leaves Woo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Woo misses with the combination.
Darren Colby seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Colby jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Colby lands with a cross.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Colby dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Woo takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Woo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Colby is trying to defend but Woo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Colby is looking to escape.
Colby is refusing to be controlled, as Woo sits in half guard.
Colby is looking to escape.
Woo is stalling here. Colby is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Woo seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Colby has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Woo is looking for a sweep.
Woo is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Colby is controlling him well.
Colby wants to stand but Woo has his arm trapped.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darren Colby dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Colby throws a poor cross that misses

and Woo counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Colby!
Colby takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Colby is trying to stand up.
Woo cracks Colby with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Woo can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Colby is looking to escape.
Colby taking shots to the head.
Woo looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Colby covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Johnny Woo!
