Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Luke Upton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Javier Pena (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Upton comes to the cage accompanied by Shutterbug. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Luke Upton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Javier Pena!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Franklyn Lucas and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Upton scores with a punch to the head.
Upton fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Pena scores with a hook.
Javier Pena seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pena looks to land a left hand but Upton moved out of range nicely.
Upton lands with an uppercut that bounces Pena off the cage and back into range.

Upton closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Pena to the mat! Pena manages to get full guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Upton prevents Pena from getting back to his feet.
Upton postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Upton landing some decent shots from guard.

Upton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pena swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pena pushes Upton off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Upton looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Pena swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Upton shoots in for a takedown but Pena shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luke Upton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Upton dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Pena misses with a wild body shot.
Upton throws a big shot that misses.
Pena lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like Luke Upton has been cut.
Upton lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pena circles away quickly and effectively.

Upton shoots in and bounces Pena off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Upton is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Upton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Upton wants to pass the guard but Pena is keeping the position.
Pena utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Upton lands a couple of digs.
Upton won't allow Pena to get back to his feet.
Upton is looking to work some ground and pound but Pena has wrist control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pena can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Upton with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Upton throws a strike but Pena rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Upton has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Pena doesn't defend quickly enough and Upton has managed to lock this one up! Can Pena escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Upton on a fantastic submission victory.

Luke Upton was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
