Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John McGuirk!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGuirk gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Bhreithiun tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. McGuirk smiles and moves away.
Bhreithiun swats away the attempt to clinch by McGuirk.
Bhreithiun fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McGuirk avoids it really well and circles away.

and McGuirk counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
McGuirk stalls.
Bhreithiun tries to pull guard but McGuirk forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Philip Bhreithiun. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Bhreithiun as McGuirk tries to tie him up.

McGuirk turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and McGuirk manages to end up in side control.

McGuirk is looking to take a break and control but Bhreithiun is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

McGuirk can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Bhreithiun is looking to escape.
McGuirk lands a heavy elbow.

Bhreithiun is desperately trying to improve his position but McGuirk has a good base and remains in mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGuirk throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Bhreithiun because McGuirk loaded up on that one.

McGuirk goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Bhreithiun is on top in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Bhreithiun drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and McGuirk dives on top into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McGuirk accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

McGuirk throws a strike but Bhreithiun rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McGuirk is looking to stand up but Bhreithiun isn't so interested in that idea.

We're going to have a standup here because Philip Bhreithiun wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Bhreithiun shoots in and drives through. McGuirk sprawls well.
Bhreithiun swats away the attempt to clinch by McGuirk.
McGuirk scoring well with a low kick there.

McGuirk shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bhreithiun manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McGuirk sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bhreithiun's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John McGuirk dominated that round.

McGuirk thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Bhreithiun moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
McGuirk looking to sit in guard and control but Bhreithiun gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Bhreithiun drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and McGuirk dives on top into guard.

McGuirk is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Bhreithiun is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Bhreithiun has escaped and now he's on top!

Bhreithiun postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! McGuirk is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Bhreithiun, into his guard.
Bhreithiun has McGuirk pulled in close to control his posture.

McGuirk looking to sit in guard and control but Bhreithiun gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Bhreithiun thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Bhreithiun controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Bhreithiun has gone for a leg lock! McGuirk slips out almost immediately though and dives into Bhreithiun's guard.
McGuirk must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
McGuirk wants to get up but he can't break Bhreithiun's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Bhreithiun looking to control.
Bhreithiun has control of McGuirk's left arm, preventing McGuirk from doing any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Philip Bhreithiun wasn't doing enough on the ground.

McGuirk moves into the clinch successfully.

McGuirk gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Bhreithiun regains guard.

McGuirk throws a strike but Bhreithiun rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

John McGuirk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


McGuirk tries to clinch but Bhreithiun is having none of it.

McGuirk fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Bhreithiun, pushing him back against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on McGuirk - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
McGuirk tries to land a knee to the head but Bhreithiun blocks with his arms.

Bhreithiun manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
McGuirk loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
McGuirk trying to control the position from guard on top but Bhreithiun is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bhreithiun wants to sweep but no luck.
Bhreithiun seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
McGuirk throws an elbow that misses. Bhreithiun uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in McGuirk's guard. Nice move by Bhreithiun!
Bhreithiun won't allow McGuirk to get back to his feet.
Bhreithiun stands and throws McGuirk's legs to the side, diving into side control.
McGuirk manages to get back to half guard.

Bhreithiun is trying to control the action in half guard but McGuirk is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Bhreithiun is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. McGuirk doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Bhreithiun.

Bhreithiun goes for an armbar but McGuirk turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from McGuirk.
John McGuirk is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

McGuirk is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Philip Bhreithiun.
Well McGuirk has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
