The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rugowski slips a jab and a cross from Kostaja.
Rugowski wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Kostaja throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Rugowski lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Kostaja or not.

Rugowski breaks from the clinch.
Rugowski tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kostaja thows a body shot but no joy.
Rugowski is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Kostaja misses with a few strikes there.

Kostaja tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Rugowski manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

enabling Rugowski to counter with a crisp jab.
Huima Kostaja seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rugowski lands a high kick!

That has opened up Huima Kostaja's cut even more.
Kostaja drops his hands momentarily and Rugowski takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Kostaja darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Rugowski holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Rugowski is trying to maintain the position but Kostaja is very close to passing his half guard.
Rugowski really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kostaja is working for a kimura but Rugowski is defending it quite comfortably.

Kostaja tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rugowski knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Kostaja is stalling here. Rugowski is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Kostaja seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Rugowski has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Kostaja is trying to improve his position.
Rugowski wants to stand but Kostaja is controlling his arm.
Kostaja is looking for a sweep.

Kostaja tries to buck Rugowski off but Rugowski is having none of it.
Rugowski will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Rugowski decides to stand back up.

Rugowski clinches with his opponent.
Kostaja has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Rugowski is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kostaja misses with a punch to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bubba Rugowski dominated that round.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Rugowski tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Kostaja looks to land a combination but Rugowski avoids it well.
Rugowski tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Rugowski gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Rugowski manages to break the clinch.
Rugowski slips under a jab.
Sloppy strikes from Kostaja. Those never looked like landing.
Rugowski wants to clinch up but Kostaja keeps it at a distance.
Kostaja misses with a combination
and Rugowski counters with a body kick that stops Kostaja in his tracks momentarily.
Kostaja misses with a two punch combination.
Rugowski scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kostaja changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rugowski tries to avoid it but Kostaja manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rugowski to the ground. Rugowski escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Kostaja counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Rugowski lands a left and a right that send Kostaja crashing to the mat, dazed. Rugowski thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

The cut above Huima Kostaja's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Huima Kostaja's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
