Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Virgil Kowalford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Neil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dave Neil is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Virgil Kowalford!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dave Neil!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kowalford looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Kowalford ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Neil moves away.
Kowalford misses with a straight left.
Kowalford fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Neil looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Neil avoids the body shot from Kowalford.
Neil shoots in for a takedown but Kowalford shows good takedown defense.
Kowalford thows a body shot but no joy.
No luck for Neil with that takedown attempt.
Neil takes one to the chin there.
Kowalford stalks Neil and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Neil's face. Neil staggers backwards, shaken.

Neil bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Neil working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Neil working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Neil throws a strike aimed at the side of Kowalford's head but Kowalford avoids it well.

Neil is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kowalford is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Neil working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Neil goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kowalford has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Neil but great work by Kowalford.
Kowalford has control of an arm but Neil manages to advance to Kowalford's back!
Kowalford breaks Neil's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Neil looks gassed!
Kowalford lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kowalford sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Neil's guard.

Neil looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Kowalford is looking for a kimura but Neil is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kowalford to get the leverage.
Kowalford trying to control the action but Neil is working from the bottom.
Kowalford is nestled in close to Neil, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kowalford seems to be working for a kimura but Neil defends the submission attempt.
Neil wants to improve his position but Kowalford is controlling well.
Neil has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kowalford is working away from the top position though.
Kowalford looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Kowalford works his foot free and advances to mount.

Neil really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Neil is squirming around, avoiding Kowalford's attempts to control the action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kowalford working for a guillotine from mount but Neil is in no mood to give up.

Neil is rocked!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Kowalford postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Neil in real trouble here! The ref calls for Neil to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Virgil Kowalford!
