PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Papa Legba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luke Cage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Legba might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Cruel Summer by Bananarama. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Papa Legba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Luke Cage!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Illya Tyunina and Fedor Mirinova.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cage tries to sprawl but Legba drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Cage wants to control but Legba is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Cage tries to get to full guard but Legba has control of the leg.
Cage keeping control of the position.
Legba prevents Cage from improving his position.
Legba is trying to control the action in half guard but Cage is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Legba working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Cage is not content to let Legba control the position.

Legba wants to control but Cage is keeping him busy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A looping hook to the body misses from Legba. Cage does a little dance to reset his feet.
Legba lands with an overhand left.
Legba throws a right and a left that both miss.
Cage takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Legba darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Legba wants to control but Cage is keeping him busy.
Cage moves into full guard.
Legba prevents Cage from getting back to his feet.
Legba trying to control the position from guard on top but Cage is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Legba stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cage swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Legba drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cage manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Legba has Cage in his guard.

Cage throws an elbow that misses. Legba uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cage's guard. Nice move by Legba!
Legba stays in close to Cage's body and controls the position.
Legba wants to pass the guard but Cage is keeping the position.
Cage keeping moving, preventing Legba from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Legba working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Legba stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cage swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Legba throws a big right hand that misses.
Legba slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Legba is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Cage looks calm but he's in trouble here. Legba gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Cage is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Legba lets go of the hold and Cage can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Papa Legba!
In his post fight interview, Papa Legba gave a big smile as he said '(holding a blunt) It's medicinal...but not for aids!!'.
