PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jackie Chan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jackie Chan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kevin Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chan avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Chan feints and as Nelson raises his hands in defense, Chan changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Nelson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Chan defends well.
Nelson controls Chan momentarily but Chan frees himself.

Nelson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Chan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Chan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Chan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nelson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Chan is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Nelson looking for a sweep. Not yet Nelson, not yet.
Nelson pulls Chan in close to his closed guard and prevents Chan from doing any damage or advancing position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nelson has a closed guard, preventing Chan from standing up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Chan fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Nelson to the ground. Chan is now in Nelson's guard.
Nelson is trying to control the position but Chan postures up.
Nelson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Nelson keeping full guard, as Chan tries to pass.
Nelson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Chan tries to reverse the position but Nelson maintains control.

Nelson is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Chan is surviving well by controlling Nelson's body position as best he can.

Nelson wants to control but instead Chan manages to regain half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Chan slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Chan wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Nelson wants to control from the top but Chan keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Chan is working an open guard so Nelson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Nelson tries to clinch but Chan is having none of it.
Nelson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nelson dives in and grabs Chan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Chan pushes down on Nelson's head and hops out.
Nelson looks gassed!
Nelson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Jackie Chan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kevin Nelson.
Nelson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Chan defends it nicely.

Chan drives through and clinches with Nelson against the cage.

Nelson throws a knee to the head but misses.
Chan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Chan manages to pull guard.
Nelson postures up.

Chan is pulling down on Nelson's head. It's preventing any offense from Nelson, at least for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jackie Chan just wasn't active enough.
Chan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nelson fails with the takedown

and Chan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Nelson's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jackie Chan dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Chan closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Nelson's guard.
Chan wanted to stand there but Nelson had control of the position.
Chan connects with a couple of short punches.

Chan stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Chan throws a series of strikes that have Nelson backpedaling.
Nelson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Chan as he avoids it easily.

and Chan counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Chan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nelson lands a knee to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Nelson is trying to break the clinch but Chan has him pressed against the cage.
Nelson has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Chan after a bit of a struggle.
Jackie Chan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kevin Nelson.

Chan has clasped his hands together around Nelson's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Jackie Chan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Chan drives through with a takedown into Nelson's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nelson is wriggling around but Chan manages to pass to half guard.
Chan perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
It looks like Chan is going to stand back up.
Nelson tries to roll over but Chan keeps him under control.
Nelson wants to control but Chan is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Chan drops an elbow to the side of Nelson's head.
Nelson is not content to let Chan control the position.
Jackie Chan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Nelson wants to control but Chan is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Chan is looking to advance position but Nelson won't allow it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Nelson closes the distance and clinches up with Chan, looking for a takedown. Nelson pushes Chan against the cage but Chan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Nelson goes for a takedown attempt but Chan pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

and Chan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Nelson's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Nelson lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Chan!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Chan bucks Nelson off and manages to get back to his feet!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Chan leaves Nelson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kevin Nelson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nelson shoots and misses

and Chan counters with a nice double leg into side control. Nelson won't be happy with that.
Chan is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Nelson's shoulder. That is not cool.

Chan decides to stand back up.

Chan closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Nelson is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Chan looks up at the clock and then as Nelson takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Chan smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Chan stands up and we're back to a striking position.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Chan.
Nelson moves in looking to clinch but Chan pushes him off.

Nelson is pushing down on Chan's leg trying to pass to half guard. Chan is fighting to maintain full guard but Nelson has managed to sneak the leg through.
Nelson tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Nelson wants to pass the guard but Chan is defending well.

Chan is trying to control Nelson's posture but Nelson avoids it.
Nelson is looking to take a break and control but Chan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Nelson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Chan, who protects the arm well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chan is looking for a sweep.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jackie Chan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Chan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
