Dawkins comes to the cage accompanied by Prong - Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck . Doherty has chosen You can't stand me now as his entrance music. Richard Dawkins has the better chin. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Richard Dawkins!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 35 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pete Doherty!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Tiny Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dawkins misses with an uppercut. Doherty saw that one coming.

Doherty clinches with his opponent.
Doherty blocks the elbow strike.
Doherty swings wildly with an uppercut but Dawkins uses good head movement to avoid it.
Dawkins is trying to pull guard but Doherty turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Dawkins jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Doherty walks away with a smile on his face. Dawkins gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Doherty connects with a crisp jab.
Doherty throws a leg kick that is checked
and Dawkins counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Doherty thinking.

Doherty changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dawkins looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Dawkins is not content to let Doherty control the position.

Doherty wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Dawkins, who protects the arm well.
Dawkins is trying to get back to half guard.

Doherty trying to control the action but Dawkins is working from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Dawkins's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Dawkins is looking to regain half guard here but Doherty keeps moving and retains side control.
Dawkins takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dawkins is not content to let Doherty control the position.
Dawkins is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Doherty trying to mount his opponent but Dawkins defends it.
Doherty is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Dawkins!
Dawkins is in a horrible position here. Doherty smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Doherty prevents Dawkins from getting the reversal.

Dawkins is wriggling around trying to escape.
Dawkins tries to control the position but Doherty now has his back.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Doherty is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Dawkins has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Doherty has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Dawkins taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Doherty doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Pete Doherty! Pete Doherty retains his lightweight title!
A very excited looking Pete Doherty rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
