Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tommy Cottero!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yuuki Gou and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cottero looks to score with a jab to the body but Alves is just out of range.
Alves swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Alves takes a swing at Cottero's ribcage but misses.

Cottero with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Alves throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Cottero stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Cottero motions for Alves to come forward. Cottero throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Cottero throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Alves connects with a jab.
Cottero thumps Alves with a low kick.
Cottero digs a good body shot into Alves's ribs.
Alves ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Cottero lands with a good body shot.
Alves uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Cottero has time to react.
Alves lands a nice hook to Cottero's body. Cottero takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Tommy Cottero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cottero throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Alves closes the distance and clinches up with Cottero, looking for a takedown. Alves pushes Cottero against the cage but Cottero circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Alves is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Alves jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Cottero is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Alves rather than just go for the knockout.

Alves stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Alves swings for the body but Cottero moves out of range.
Cottero looks to land a body kick but Alves moved away.
Alves shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Cottero tries a low kick but Alves avoids it.

and Alves counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Alves shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cottero defends it nicely.

Cottero motions for Alves to come forward. Cottero throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Alves really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Cottero feints a jab promting Alves to slip. Cottero then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Alves slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Cottero misses with a body kick.
Alves throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Cottero misses with a head kick.
Alves throws a hook to the side of Cottero's head but Cottero sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Cottero lands a jab to Alves's midsection.
Alves digs a good body shot into Cottero's ribs.
Alves ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cottero moves away.

Alves scores with a takedown into Cottero's guard.

Cottero has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Alves will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Alves takes a swing at Cottero's ribcage but misses.

Cottero cracks Alves with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Alves changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cottero looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cottero tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Alves wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Alves scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Cottero to see if he's OK.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cottero is not content to let Alves control the position.

Alves tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Alves has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Cottero gets back to half guard.
Alves throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Cottero to regain full guard.

Alves wants to control from the top but Cottero keeps moving.

Alves controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Alves wants to pass the guard but Cottero is keeping the position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Alves won't allow Cottero to sweep him here.
Alves slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A bone on bone clash there as Alves blocks the leg kick.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tommy Cottero dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Alves shoots in looking for a takedown. Cottero tries to sprawl out of it but Alves keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cottero manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Alves fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cottero avoids it really well and circles away.
Cottero does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Cottero scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Cottero jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Cottero punishes Alves's body with a nice straight punch.

Cottero lands a brutal head kick. Alves looks out on his feet and Cottero throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
