PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leo McGarry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samuraimo Rassi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGarry comes to the cage accompanied by Welcome to the Machine. Rassi has chosen Damian Marley - It Was Written as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Leo McGarry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Samuraimo Rassi!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A swing and a miss from Rassi.
McGarry falls off balance throwing a combination
and Rassi counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Rassi pushes McGarry up against the cage in a clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Rassi - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Rassi breaks from the clinch.
McGarry shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rassi sprawls well. Rassi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. McGarry gets slowly back to his feet.
Rassi misses with a jab, cross combination.

Rassi closes the distance and clinches.
McGarry tries to pull guard but Rassi won't allow it.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McGarry wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Rassi's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

McGarry fails to pull guard.

Rassi misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Rassi pushes McGarry back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
McGarry tries a body shot but Rassi blocks it.
Rassi misses with a knee to the head.

Rassi breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rassi throws the left hand but McGarry avoids the punch easily.
Rassi tries a head kick but it misses.
Rassi connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Rassi circles away from the clinch attempt.
McGarry shoots in for a takedown but Rassi shows good takedown defense.
Rassi throws a half hearted mid kick.

Rassi lands with a good body shot.
Rassi misses with a body kick.
Rassi fails in his attempt to clinch.
Rassi fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and McGarry has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Rassi keeps the fight on the outside.
McGarry shoots in but no luck this time.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Rassi gets caught napping as McGarry dives in and scores a takedown. Rassi manages to retain guard.

Rassi wriggles free and stands up.

Rassi has taken the fight to the clinch.
McGarry avoiding damage as Rassi throws knees to the body.
McGarry has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
McGarry is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Nice body punch from Rassi.

McGarry wants to take the fight to the mat but Rassi manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Rassi breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
McGarry tries to clinch but Rassi moves out of range.

McGarry moves into range and clinches up with Rassi.

Rassi pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

McGarry scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Rassi is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked McGarry off and has taken his back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rassi slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Let's hope that Rassi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
McGarry is in bad spot here.
Rassi tries to keep control of the position but McGarry is staying busy.
Rassi just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McGarry is trying to break free.
Rassi is trying to stick to McGarry's back but McGarry is turning into Rassi. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Rassi's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by McGarry.
Rassi is looking to stand up but McGarry isn't so interested in that idea.
Rassi wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Samuraimo Rassi has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Rassi misses with a body kick.
Samuraimo Rassi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Rassi gets a clinch.
McGarry wants to take the fight to the mat but Rassi manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Rassi lands a shoulder strike.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Nice body punch from Rassi - that landed with a thud.
McGarry prevents a body shot from Rassi.
McGarry has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
McGarry avoiding damage as Rassi throws knees to the body.

Samuraimo Rassi dominated that round.
That's time! McGarry's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Rassi lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Rassi throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
McGarry walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Rassi throws a series of punches but McGarry avoids them all with ease.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Rassi. McGarry shrugs it off though.
McGarry shoots in looking for a takedown. Rassi tries to sprawl out of it but McGarry keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rassi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
McGarry fails with the takedown
and Rassi counters with a straight right hand.
McGarry swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Leo McGarry is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Rassi has managed to clinch.
Rassi prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leo McGarry. That's going to take a lot out of him.

McGarry closes the distance and clinches up with Rassi, looking for a takedown. McGarry pushes Rassi against the cage but Rassi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Rassi bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
McGarry takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Rassi throws a push kick but McGarry slaps the foot to one side.

McGarry wants to take the fight to the mat but Rassi manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

It looks like Leo McGarry has been cut.

Rassi escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Rassi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McGarry, pushing him back against the cage.

Rassi manages to break the clinch.
Rassi lands a head kick. McGarry smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
McGarry will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Rassi lands a leg kick that knocks McGarry off balance momentarily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Rassi scores with a knee to the head.

Samuraimo Rassi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Leo McGarry's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


McGarry misses with a takedown attempt - Rassi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

McGarry is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Rassi throws a push kick but McGarry slaps the foot to one side.

Rassi throws a leg kick which misses McGarry's front leg but catches the back leg as McGarry tries to avoid it.
Rassi keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

McGarry shoots in and drives through. Rassi sprawls well.
Rassi pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rassi tries a head kick but it misses.
Jab, jab by Rassi - just one landing.
Samuraimo Rassi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Rassi.
Rassi is looking to land body kicks.
Rassi connects with a solid leg kick.
McGarry steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Rassi. That one must have hurt.
Rassi tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rassi connects with a leg kick. McGarry looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
McGarry tries to clinch up but Rassi circles away and keeps his distance.
Rassi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

McGarry decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Rassi looks like he's trying to stand up.

The fighters are battling for position here. Rassi manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rassi kicks McGarry off and gets to his feet.
Rassi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Rassi looks to land a combination but McGarry avoids it well.
Rassi lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Rassi misses with an attempted mid kick.
Rassi tries to close the distance and clinch but McGarry swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A head kick misses from Rassi.
McGarry tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rassi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten McGarry somewhat.
McGarry fails with a takedown attempt.
Rassi fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

McGarry tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rassi swivels and escapes.
Rassi tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but McGarry paws at him with a jab and circles away.

McGarry gets the takedown into side control.
Rassi dodges the ground and pound from McGarry.
Samuraimo Rassi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Samuraimo Rassi has got the better of the ground game so far.

McGarry swings around for an armbar but Rassi sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into McGarry's guard.

McGarry has a closed guard, preventing Rassi from standing up.

McGarry looking for a triangle here. Rassi is fighting it but it looks tight! McGarry pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Rassi is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Leo McGarry!
During a confident post fight interview, Leo McGarry thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
