The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Ruut checks a leg kick.
Xiii moves forwards but Ruut connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Ruut misses with an uppercut. Xiii saw that one coming.

Xiii changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ruut looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Xiii is looking to take a break and control but Ruut is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ruut takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Xiii works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Xiii is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ruut is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Ruut wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Xiii remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Xiii shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Xiii showed some decent athleticism there.

Xiii lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Ruut quite badly. Ruut pulls Xiii in close trying to recover. Xiii postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Ruut on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Ruut doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
