The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vaakku tries to close the distance and clinch up but Martinez swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Vaakku has closed the distance and engaged Martinez in a clinch.
Vaakku has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Martinez avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Vaakku tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Martinez smiles and moves away.

Jarkko Vaakku seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

It looks like Jarkko Vaakku has been cut.
Vaakku tries to clinch up but Martinez circles away and keeps his distance.
Martinez swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Vaakku.

Martinez connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Vaakku connects with an inside leg kick.

Vaakku closes the distance and pushes Martinez back into the cage.

Vaakku is trying to maintain a safe position but Martinez gets an underhook and turns Vaakku into the cage.
Vaakku jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Martinez walks away with a smile on his face. Vaakku gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Martinez takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
An inside leg kick from Vaakku misses.
Martinez connects with a body shot that sends Vaakku's belly button to the back.
Martinez lands a nice shot that snaps Vaakku's head back.
Vaakku is looking to clinch.
Vaakku moves to clinch but Martinez breaks away
and Martinez counters with a nice body kick.
Vaakku is breathing heavily.

Martinez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Martinez lands a good knee to the midsection. Vaakku won't want to take too many of those.
Vaakku trying to stall but Martinez improves his position.

Vaakku tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Martinez smiles and moves away.
Martinez thumps Vaakku with a low kick.
Vaakku takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Martinez keeps the fight on the outside.
An inside leg kick lands from Martinez.

Martinez lands a left and a right that send Vaakku crashing to the mat, dazed. Martinez thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Vaakku is rocked!

Jarkko Vaakku's cut is getting worse.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Martinez, right into the meat.
Oh Vaakku is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Martinez fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Vaakku looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Martinez connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt Vaakku covering up! Martinez comes in with a big uppercut and Vaakku goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Ricardo Martinez!
