Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kuroda Atsushi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fenton Meeks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kuroda Atsushi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fenton Meeks!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Summer Carpenter and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Atsushi bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Atsushi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Meeks tries to bum rush Atsushi with a series of wild strikes but Atsushi uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Fenton Meeks is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Meeks throws a right hand that Atsushi ducks under and follows up with a left that Atsushi also avoids with ease.
Atsushi connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Atsushi scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Meeks doesn't seem bothered though.
Nice takedown defense from Meeks. No joy for Atsushi on that attempt.

and Atsushi connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Meeks misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Atsushi tries to land a front kick but Meeks steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Atsushi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Atsushi winds up and cracks Meeks with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Meeks wants to control but Atsushi is keeping busy.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Meeks is looking to control Atsushi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Meeks avoid being mounted?
This has been an exciting period of action!
Meeks is trying to stand up here but Atsushi is controlling him well.

Atsushi is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Atsushi is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Meeks sees it coming and defends easily.
Atsushi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Meeks with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Meeks regains full guard. Nicely done.
Meeks controls Atsushi momentarily but Atsushi frees himself.
Meeks looking to hit a scissor sweep but Atsushi is one step ahead there.
Atsushi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Meeks works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Atsushi shoots in for a double leg but Meeks sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Atsushi postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Meeks looks a forlorn figure.
Meeks really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Atsushi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Meeks is looking to improve his position but Atsushi isn't that keen on the idea.
Atsushi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Meeks is looking to escape.

Atsushi has control of Meeks's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Meeks regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Atsushi lands a big shot there that rocks Meeks but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Atsushi is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Meeks knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Meeks can do anything to dispel that myth.

Atsushi lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Meeks down.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Atsushi, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
