PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between King Gonawyn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew King V (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gonawyn comes to the cage accompanied by Crush 'em - Megadeth. King Gonawyn had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 267.9lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Matthew King V was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonawyn shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
King V tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Gonawyn really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

King V has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Gonawyn uses from the top position.

King V has momentary wrist control but Gonawyn slips an elbow through the middle.

King V is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Gonawyn will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Matthew King V wasn't active enough on the ground.
Gonawyn dives in and grabs King V's left leg, looking for a takedown. King V pushes down on Gonawyn's head and hops out.

Gonawyn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. King V swivels though and keeps the full guard.
King V wants to sweep here but Gonawyn controlling him for the moment.

King V working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gonawyn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gonawyn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gonawyn is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
King V wants to control the position but Gonawyn says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
King V has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gonawyn is working away from the top position though.

Gonawyn is nestled in close to King V, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
King V is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Gonawyn scores with a couple of nice shots.
King V is trying to control but can't.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that King Gonawyn will probably get the nod.

King V seems a little lost for a moment, as Gonawyn dominates the positioning.

Gonawyn is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Gonawyn gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Gonawyn gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Gonawyn apologises and we restart here on the feet.

King V manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Gonawyn on his heels. He'll look to pass Gonawyn's guard now, I'm sure.
King V is looking to work some ground and pound but Gonawyn has wrist control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
King V wants to clinch up but Gonawyn keeps it at a distance.
Gonawyn shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says King V as he avoids it easily.
King V throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

King V moves into the clinch.

King V is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Gonawyn can't fight it off and eventually King V manages to take the fight to the floor. Gonawyn looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Gonawyn looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! King V has picked Gonawyn up and slammed him! Gonawyn can't keep hold of the triangle and King V manages to pass to side control!

Gonawyn is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Well, if Gonawyn is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
