PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eulalio Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ted Scheckler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ted Scheckler told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eulalio Gonzalez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ted Scheckler!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scheckler scores with a push kick.
Scheckler swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Gonzalez.
Gonzalez closes the distance but Scheckler moves to the side
and Scheckler counters with an inside leg kick.
Scheckler scores with a nice right hand.

Scheckler shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gonzalez blocking the ground and pound attempt from Scheckler.
Well, if Scheckler is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Scheckler is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gonzalez defends it well.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Scheckler is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Gonzalez is trying desperately to improve position.
Scheckler trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Scheckler might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Gonzalez kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Gonzalez takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Gonzalez is squirming around, avoiding Scheckler's attempts to control the action.
Scheckler prevents Gonzalez from getting the reversal.
Scheckler has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
BOOM! Scheckler connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Scheckler throws some wild stikes that Gonzalez manages to avoid easily.

Scheckler trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Scheckler is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Gonzalez can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Scheckler is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Gonzalez has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Gonzalez!
Scheckler is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Scheckler is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Scheckler is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Gonzalez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Scheckler is keeping the position for now.
Gonzalez is working hard here to advance position.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Scheckler is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gonzalez defends well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gonzalez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ted Scheckler dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Scheckler is looking to slow Gonzalez down with leg kicks.
Scheckler lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Gonzalez at a distance.
Scheckler lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Gonzalez shoots in but Scheckler avoids the takedown attempt easily.

and Scheckler counters with an outside leg kick.
Scheckler goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Scheckler bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Gonzalez's head.
Scheckler connects with a crisp jab.

Scheckler lands with an uppercut that bounces Gonzalez off the cage and back into range.

Scheckler looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Scheckler lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Gonzalez misses with a looping right.
Scheckler throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Ted Scheckler seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Scheckler gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Gonzalez.
Scheckler lands a really nice looking cross but Gonzalez seems unphased.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gonzalez stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Scheckler.
A punch lands to the side of Gonzalez 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Gonzalez takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Scheckler connects with a leg kick. Gonzalez looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Gonzalez takes a jab right on the kisser.

Scheckler's corner calls for a 1-2. Scheckler obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Gonzalez takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Gonzalez has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Scheckler.
Scheckler lands a nice looking body kick.
Ted Scheckler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scheckler turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Scheckler lands with an uppercut that bounces Gonzalez off the cage and back into range.
Gonzalez takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Scheckler lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Gonzalez walks into a stiff left hand from Scheckler.
A left and a right from Scheckler both land. Nice combination.

Scheckler has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Gonzalez takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Scheckler plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ted Scheckler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Scheckler misses with the combination.
Scheckler throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Gonzalez stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Scheckler connects with a jab.
Gonzalez sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Scheckler throws a head kick that Gonzalez semi-blocks.
Gonzalez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Scheckler but Scheckler pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Gonzalez has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Scheckler.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Scheckler fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Gonzalez on the wrong end of a nice hook.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Scheckler lands with a nice combination. Gonzalez backs away looking to recover.
Good shot there by Scheckler.
Scheckler scores with a hook to the body. Gonzalez takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Gonzalez stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Scheckler.
Gonzalez closes the distance looking to clinch
and Scheckler counters with a nice low kick that buckles Gonzalez's knee momentarily.

Scheckler instigates a clinch.
Gonzalez fails to pull the fight into his guard.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Scheckler takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Gonzalez ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Gonzalez no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Scheckler tries to free his leg and advance position but Gonzalez is retaining full guard.
Scheckler slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Scheckler is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gonzalez has escaped the position, nice work there.
Scheckler tries to move to mount but Gonzalez blocks the move with his legs.

Scheckler swings around for an armbar but Gonzalez sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Scheckler's guard.
Gonzalez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Gonzalez throws a big elbow that misses.
Scheckler trying to keep a closed guard but Gonzalez is proving a slippery customer.
Scheckler is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Ted Scheckler has got the better of the ground game so far.
Gonzalez manages to get to full guard.
Scheckler trying to control but Gonzalez is working from the bottom.

Scheckler content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Ted Scheckler is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Gonzalez trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Scheckler controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ted Scheckler comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Scheckler has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
