The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lemieux throws a nice looking combination but Mendes bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Mendes moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Mendes, as that shot connected.
Lemieux ducks right into an uppercut from Mendes.

Mendes throws a series of punches but Lemieux avoids them all with ease.
Mendes keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mendes throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lemieux.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mendes can do anything to dispel that myth.

Lemieux thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Lemieux throws an elbow that misses. Mendes uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lemieux's guard. Nice move by Mendes!

Lemieux had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mendes defends it easily.
Mendes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lemieux. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mendes slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Lemieux.

Lemieux has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Lemieux will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mendes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lemieux swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Oh but Lemieux is tightening it up a little... Mendes has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Mendes reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Mendes taps out! Nice BJJ there by Lemieux!
