PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joao Oliveira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Snow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Oliveira's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Greenday-Holyday. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joao Oliveira!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jon Snow!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Snow looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

It looks like Snow might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Snow tries to free his leg and advance position but Oliveira is retaining full guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jon Snow wasn't active enough on the ground.

Snow scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Snow creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
A lull in the action here as Snow stalls from top position.

Snow has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Oliveira slaps away a takedown attempt from Snow, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Snow changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Oliveira looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Snow decides to stand back up.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Oliveira tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Snow manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Snow drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Snow gets to his feet. Oliveira looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jon Snow.

Snow fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Oliveira sprawls well initially but Snow persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Snow escapes and gets back to his feet.
Snow shoots in for a double leg but Oliveira sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Snow closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Oliveira's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Oliveira is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Snow trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Oliveira manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Snow kicks Oliveira off and gets to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Oliveira misses with a takedown attempt - Snow sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Oliveira tries to pull guard but Snow holds him up against the cage and eventually Oliveira drops back down to his feet.

Snow works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Snow decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Nice takedown defense from Snow. No joy for Oliveira on that attempt.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Snow decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Oliveira, up you get!

Snow shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Snow was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Oliveira is desperately trying to improve his position but Snow has a good base and remains in mount.

Snow get's back to his feet.
Snow shoots in looking for a takedown. Oliveira tries to sprawl out of it but Snow keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Oliveira manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Oliveira stuffs the takedown.
Joao Oliveira is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Snow shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Oliveira as he avoids it easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Oliveira wants to clinch.

Snow fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Oliveira fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Snow fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Oliveira avoids it really well and circles away.

and Oliveira counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Jon Snow showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Oliveira could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Snow is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Snow has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Snow moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Snow seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Snow looking for a sweep. Not yet Snow, not yet.

Snow pushes Oliveira off and scrambles back to his feet.

Snow shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Oliveira manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Oliveira pulls Snow in to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Snow's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Oliveira is trying to keep Snow in close.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Snow shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Snow controls from within his opponent's guard.
Let's hope that Snow has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Snow got a little sloppy there for a moment and Oliveira has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Snow has managed to get both his arms back between Oliveira's legs - danger averted.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jon Snow hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Oliveira gets caught flat footed, as Snow shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Joao Oliveira has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jon Snow is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Snow stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Jon Snow comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Snow has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
