Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Boris Pavlov!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Illya Tyunina and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pavlov throws an overhand right that lands on Askren's shoulder, as Askren tries to avoid the shot.
Askren ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Pavlov moves away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Pavlov blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Pavlov is trying to break free.
Askren doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Askren with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Pavlov breaks from the clinch.
Askren dodges the punch combination from Pavlov.
A big right from Pavlov misses.
Pavlov moves out of range of the strikes.
No luck for Askren with that takedown attempt.
Askren misses with a head kick.
Askren connects with a body shot that sends Pavlov's belly button to the back.

Boris Pavlov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Pavlov throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Askren slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Pavlov cracks Askren with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Askren fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Pavlov checks it well.
Pavlov misses with an uppercut
and Askren counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Pavlov connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Askren's hands.
Pavlov stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pavlov wants it to stay on the feet.
Pavlov connects with a right hand. Askren shakes it off.
Pavlov throws a jab but it's blocked by Askren.
Pavlov thows a body shot but no joy.
Askren uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Pavlov.
Askren ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Pavlov moves away.
Pavlov misses with a straight left.

Askren fails with the takedown.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Askren, as that shot connected.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Askren misses with a low kick as Pavlov jumps back.
Askren misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Askren uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Pavlov.
A nice combination there by Askren.
Askren shoots in and drives through. Pavlov sprawls well.
Pavlov misses with an uppercut. Askren saw that one coming.

Askren scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Askren wants to take a breather but Pavlov manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Askren.
Pavlov seems keen to control Askren's posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pavlov tries to bum rush Askren with a series of wild strikes but Askren uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Pavlov loads up on a big right hand but Askren slips the punch.
Askren will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Pavlov misses with a series of wild punches.
Pavlov throws a lazy right hand but Askren sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Pavlov shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Askren eats them both and turns towards Pavlov to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Pavlov misses with an uppercut. Askren saw that one coming.
Pavlov takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Askren walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
A swing and a miss from Askren.
Askren lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Sloppy strikes from Askren. Those never looked like landing.
A jab from Pavlov finds it's way through Askren's defenses.
Pavlov throws a hook but Askren avoids it easily.
Pavlov gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Askren on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pavlov jabbing away but nothing is landing.
A head kick from Askren lands but Pavlov takes it in his stride.

Askren decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Askren seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Askren not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Askren is trying to work for a kimura but Pavlov is defending well.
Pavlov is refusing to be controlled, as Askren sits in half guard.
Askren passes to side control.
Askren throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Pavlov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Askren. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Askren has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Askren throws a right and a left that both miss.
Pavlov throws a jab but it's blocked by Askren.
Pavlov misses with the combination.
Pavlov moves away from the strike by Askren.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pavlov is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Askren.
Pavlov loads up on a big right hand but Askren slips the punch.
Askren takes one on the button.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Askren will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Pavlov throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Boris Pavlov seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Askren throws out a loose jab but Pavlov uses good head movement to avoid it.
Pavlov takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Pavlov might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Askren changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pavlov tries to avoid it but Askren manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pavlov to the ground. Pavlov escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pavlov lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Askren tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pavlov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Askren somewhat.

Askren shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Pavlov defends it nicely.
Pavlov throws the left hand but Askren avoids the punch easily.

Pavlov throws a right and a left that both miss.
Askren throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pavlov's waist but Pavlov gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Askren off to one side.

and Askren holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Pavlov wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Askren scores with a shot to the side of Pavlov's head.
Pavlov tries to break free but Askren pushes him back against the cage.

Both guys are working to get underhooks.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Askren creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Pavlov escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Askren misses with a body punch
and Pavlov counters with a stiff right hand.

Pavlov throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Askren sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Pavlov bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Pavlov looks to throw the jab but Askren is out of range.
Askren walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Askren connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Pavlov's hands.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Askren drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Askren takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Pavlov feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Askrens jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Pavlov connects with a good right hand that stumbles Askren. Askren circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Boris Pavlov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pavlov has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
