PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wolfgang Steuermann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikey Schkelpt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steuermann comes into the arena with Ein Prosit blaring out of the sound system. Mikey Schkelpt will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Wolfgang Steuermann!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mikey Schkelpt!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Damien Edna and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steuermann looks for a takedown but Schkelpt sprawls well.
Schkelpt connects with a body shot that sends Steuermann's belly button to the back.
Schkelpt smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Steuermann closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Schkelpt's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Schkelpt wants to stand and escape but Steuermann is having none of it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Steuermann throws an elbow that misses. Schkelpt uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Steuermann's guard. Nice move by Schkelpt!
Schkelpt has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Steuermann is proving hard to escape from.

Steuermann is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Schkelpt defends well.

Steuermann has his foot on Schkelpt's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Schkelpt works his way back into a safe position though.

Steuermann has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Schkelpt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Steuermann is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Schkelpt defends well.
Schkelpt must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Steuermann is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Schkelpt is staying active underneath Steuermann, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Schkelpt is looking to improve his position.
Steuermann thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Schkelpt's head.
Schkelpt is trying to control but can't.
Steuermann lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Steuermann prevents Schkelpt from standing back up.

Steuermann is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Schkelpt has managed to free his arm - good work.
Steuermann has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Steuermann is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Steuermann wants to control but Schkelpt is keeping him busy.
Schkelpt is looking to control Steuermann's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Schkelpt avoid being mounted?
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Schkelpt is refusing to be controlled, as Steuermann sits in half guard.
Schkelpt is trying to get back to full guard.
Schkelpt tries to kick Steuermann off but Steuermann keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Schkelpt is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Steuermann scores with a couple of nice shots.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Steuermann working over Schkelpt with some ground and pound. Schkelpt looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.


It looks like Mikey Schkelpt has been cut.
Steuermann not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Steuermann stops Schkelpt from getting back to his feet.

Steuermann is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Schkelpt defends it well.
Steuermann seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Schkelpt wants to get back to full guard.
Steuermann is nestled in close to Schkelpt, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Schkelpt really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Steuermann. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Steuermann lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
This has been an exciting period of action!

That has opened up Mikey Schkelpt's cut even more.
Schkelpt regains full guard. Nicely done.
Schkelpt wants to sweep here but Steuermann controlling him for the moment.

Steuermann might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Steuermann works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Steuermann is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Schkelpt tries to kick Steuermann off but Steuermann keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Steuermann is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Schkelpt doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Steuermann.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


The crowd cheers as Schkelpt lands an impressive looking overhand right. Steuermann doesn't seem phased though.

Schkelpt lands a left and a right that send Steuermann crashing to the mat, dazed. Schkelpt thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Wolfgang Steuermann has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Steuermann steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Schkelpt.
Schkelpt throws a series of punches but Steuermann avoids them all with ease.
Schkelpt throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Schkelpt waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Steuermann.
Mikey Schkelpt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Schkelpt throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Steuermann sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A big right from Schkelpt misses.
Steuermann takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Schkelpt connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Steuermann momentarily.
Schkelpt plants his feet and throws a 3 punch combo. Miss, miss, boom! The third punch, a big right hook, connects right on the temple and drops Steuermann to the mat, unconscious! This fight is all over! Steuermann just couldn't keep out of the way of the whole flurry of punches!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Mikey Schkelpt!
An out of breath Mikey Schkelpt thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
