PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Romek Atomek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Romek Atomek!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Aldo!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aldo looks to land a combination but Atomek avoids it well.

Atomek shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Atomek perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Aldo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Atomek. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Atomek throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Romek Atomek.

Atomek fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Aldo manages to avoid it.

Aldo moves out of range of the body kick.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Aldo enables Atomek to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Aldo manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Atomek slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Atomek's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Aldo wants to get back to his feet but Atomek is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Aldo can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Atomek controls the pace.

Atomek ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Atomek no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Aldo wants to stand and escape but instead Atomek has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Atomek has hold of one of Aldo's legs. Aldo is fighting the takedown attempt but Atomek gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Atomek shoots in for a double leg but Aldo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Aldo is trying to break the clinch but Atomek has him pressed against the cage.
Atomek is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Aldo is defending well for now.

Atomek is pulling down on Aldo's head. It's preventing any offense from Aldo, at least for the moment.

Atomek had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Aldo defends it easily.
Atomek is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Aldo throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Atomek's head.

Atomek drops down looking for an ankle pick but Aldo pulls his leg out and moves away.

Atomek changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Aldo tries to avoid it but Atomek manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Aldo to the ground. Aldo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Aldo throws a sloppy head kick and Atomek moves out of range easily.

Atomek takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Aldo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Atomek slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Romek Atomek is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Atomek decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Aldo, up you get!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Romek Atomek.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Atomek, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
