PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mathieu Rouleau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Submission Artist (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Artist throws a half hearted mid kick.

Rouleau gets a takedown into half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Rouleau seems to be looking for submissions.
Rouleau tries to pass the half guard into mount. Artist knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Still in half guard, Rouleau seems content to control.
Artist punching from the bottom.
Rouleau not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Rouleau decides to stand up.
Artist fails with a takedown attempt.

Artist tries to clinch there but Rouleau circles away.
Artist shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Rouleau decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Artist's guard.
Rouleau throws a strike but Artist rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Rouleau is looking to sweep but instead, Artist has passed into half guard.
Rouleau is trying to get back to full guard.
Artist trying to control the action but Rouleau is working from the bottom.
Artist is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Rouleau looking for submissions off his back.
Rouleau is concentrating on defense, preventing Artist from advancing position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Artist trying to control the action but Rouleau is working from the bottom.
Rouleau wants to improve his position but Artist is controlling well.

Rouleau moves into full guard.
Rouleau keeping moving, preventing Artist from controlling successfully.
Artist missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Artist wants to stand but Rouleau has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Submission Artist hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Horrible takedown by Rouleau or perhaps it was just good defense by Artist which made him look bad.
Rouleau is breathing heavily.
Artist shoots for a takedown but Rouleau saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mathieu Rouleau has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Submission Artist.
Rouleau scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Artist shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Artist lands a nice looking body shot.

Rouleau changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Artist looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Artist wants to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rouleau decides to take the fight back to the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mathieu Rouleau dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Rouleau shoots in looking for a takedown. Artist tries to sprawl out of it but Rouleau keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Artist manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rouleau misses with a head kick.

and Artist counters with a body kick.

Rouleau scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Artist gets back to full guard.
Artist is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Artist is looking for a kimura but Rouleau is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Artist to get the leverage.

Artist takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Rouleau is trying to control but Artist manages to pass to mount!
Artist controlling the pace for now.
Mathieu Rouleau overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Artist working for a guillotine from mount but Rouleau is in no mood to give up.
Artist trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Rouleau can't escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Artist raining down hammerfists from mount.
Rouleau has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Artist trying to control momentarily.

Artist has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Rouleau is in real trouble here. Artist gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Rouleau is tapping out! Artist wins by rear naked choke!
