PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ebenezer Scrooge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darth Vader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ebenezer Scrooge had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ebenezer Scrooge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Darth Vader!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vader connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Scrooge's hands.
Left hook, right uppercut from Vader.
Scrooge closes the distance and clinches up with Vader, looking for a takedown. Scrooge pushes Vader against the cage but Vader circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Scrooge has taken the fight to the clinch.
Scrooge working hard to break the clinch.
Scrooge has had enough of the clinch but Vader keeps him there for the moment.
Vader trying to stall but Scrooge improves his position.
Scrooge working hard to break the clinch.
Vader prevents Scrooge from breaking the clinch.
Scrooge looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Scrooge is looking to break free of the clinch but Vader has double underhooks.
Scrooge is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Vader to keep the fight standing.
Scrooge could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Vader breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Vader misses with a combination

and Scrooge decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Vader's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Vader wants to stand but Scrooge is controlling the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Scrooge drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Scrooge jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Scrooge tries to free his leg and advance position but Vader is retaining full guard.
Vader wants to get back to his feet but Scrooge passes into half guard.
Vader is trying to stand back up but Scrooge is controlling him
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Scrooge in particular looking to stall.
Vader pushes Scrooge off looking to stand but Scrooge dives back in and keeps control.
Scrooge seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vader does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Scrooge is taking a breather. Vader says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Ebenezer Scrooge wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Vader takes one to the side of the head.
Nice body kick there by Vader.
Scrooge shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Vader as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ebenezer Scrooge. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sloppy strikes from Vader. Those never looked like landing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Vader slips under a jab.
Darth Vader is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Vader moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Vader misses with a body kick.
Vader keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A right-left combo lands from Scrooge.
Vader misses with a wild combination.
Vader connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Scrooge momentarily.
Vader throws a right and a left that both miss.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vader pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Scrooge misses the jab.
Vader scores with a head kick.

Scrooge closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Scrooge working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Scrooge looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Scrooge trying to control the action but Vader is working from the bottom.

Scrooge wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Vader, who protects the arm well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Scrooge tries for a kimura but Vader is defending well.

Scrooge is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Vader is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Scrooge tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Scrooge has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Scrooge in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Vader is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ebenezer Scrooge!
Ebenezer Scrooge bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
