Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jhogo Ko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reggie Smalls (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ko comes to the cage accompanied by DJ Khaled - All I do is win. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jhogo Ko!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Reggie Smalls!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Jorge Garcia and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ko with a lazy takedown attempt
and Smalls counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Smalls shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ko napping and manages to drive through into side control!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Smalls looks up at the clock and then as Ko takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Smalls smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Smalls working the body and head with strikes.

Smalls tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smalls has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ko manages to get back to half guard.
Ko is trying to control but can't.
Ko tries to get to full guard but Smalls has control of the leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smalls missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Smalls not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Smalls is taking a breather. Ko says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ko is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Smalls pulls his head out easily.
Ko is trying to get back to full guard.

Ko looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Smalls looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ko with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Ko is looking for a sweep. Smalls is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ko moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Smalls cracks Ko with a solid left hand.
Smalls chips away with some ground and pound.

Ko is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Smalls trying to control the position from guard on top but Ko is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smalls must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smalls throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Smalls wants to control from the top but Ko keeps moving.
Ko tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ko has momentary wrist control but Smalls slips an elbow through the middle.
Ko looking to hit a scissor sweep but Smalls is one step ahead there.
Smalls sitting in guard here, content to control.
Ko keeping moving, preventing Smalls from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Reggie Smalls was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Smalls staying out of range there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smalls cracks a nice hook into Ko's ribs.
Smalls connects with a looping right hand.
Smalls lands a body shot.

Smalls scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Smalls trying to pass the guard but Ko defending well.

Ko looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Smalls wants to take a breather but Ko is having none of it.
Ko is trying to maintain the position but Smalls is very close to passing his half guard.
Smalls blocks the strikes from Ko.
Smalls slips a nice elbow through Ko's hands, connecting with Ko's forehead.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ko looking for submissions off his back.
Smalls is looking to take a break and control but Ko is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smalls lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Smalls prevents Ko from improving his position.
Ko is working hard here to advance position.
Smalls landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Ko gets full guard.
Smalls showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Smalls wants to control from the top but Ko keeps moving.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Ko has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smalls can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Smalls lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Reggie Smalls dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ko jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Smalls connects with a crisp jab.
Smalls leaves Ko with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Smalls digs a good hook to Ko's body.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Ko checks a leg kick.

Smalls looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Smalls looking to pass the guard.
Ko working a defensive guard here.
Ko can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Smalls controls the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ko pushes a forearm under Smalls's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Smalls is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jhogo Ko!
