PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kenji Kuraba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tebato Nakara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tebato Nakara told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 13 - 1, fighting out of London, Kenji Kuraba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of London, Tebato Nakara!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Glass and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kuraba looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nakara looks to score with a jab to the body but Kuraba is just out of range.
Kuraba displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.


It looks like Tebato Nakara has been cut.
Kuraba misses the jab.
Kuraba lands a nice shot to the body.
Nakara displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kuraba throws out the jab.
Nakara dodges the punch combination from Kuraba.
Nakara throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nakara fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kuraba sprawls well initially but Nakara persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nakara just trying to survive but Kuraba is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Kuraba is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Nakara. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.

Kuraba looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Nakara lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Nakara postures up in Kuraba's guard and throws a big left but Kuraba blocks it.
Nakara has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Kenji Kuraba will probably get the nod.

Kuraba's corner calls for a 1-2. Kuraba obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Kenji Kuraba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nakara shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kuraba as he jumps to the side.
Kuraba takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Kuraba punishes Nakara's body with a nice straight punch.
Nakara steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Kuraba.
Kuraba throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kuraba rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Nakara moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Nakara shoots in for a double leg but Kuraba sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Kuraba moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Nakara misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Kenji Kuraba has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tebato Nakara.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nakara bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Nakara misses with a hook. Kuraba ducked under it nicely.

letting Nakara counter with a right hand.

Nakara drives through with a takedown into Kuraba's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's time! Kuraba's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Kuraba takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Horrible takedown by Nakara or perhaps it was just good defense by Kuraba which made him look bad.

Nakara shoots for a double leg takedown but Kuraba sprawls well. He's pushed Nakara's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

No joy there for Kuraba, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Nakara darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Nakara not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kuraba is positioning himself well to prevent Nakara advancing to mount.

Nakara is looking to stall here but Kuraba recovers full guard.
Kuraba is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Nakara is in close to Kuraba's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Kuraba is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Nakara is refusing to be controlled, as Kuraba sits in half guard.

Kuraba wants to free his trapped foot but Nakara is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Kuraba wants to control but Nakara is keeping him busy.
Nakara has hold of Kuraba's hands but Kuraba slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nakara gets back to full guard.
Nakara trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kenji Kuraba.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kuraba, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
