PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gab Showman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reza Katebi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Katebi feints and then cracks Showman's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Showman down.
Katebi lands a glancing blow to the side of Showman's head.
Katebi loads up on a big right hand but Showman slips the punch.
Showman avoids the body shot from Katebi.
Showman throws a lazy right hand but Katebi sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A leg kick checked by Katebi.
Showman throws a shot from downtown. Katebi moves away and avoids it.
Showman swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Katebi throws an overhand right that lands on Showman's shoulder, as Showman tries to avoid the shot.
Showman throws a sloppy head kick and Katebi moves out of range easily.
Showman lands with a slapping head kick.
Katebi blocks the body kick.
Jab, jab by Showman - just one landing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Katebi attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Katebi takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Showman misses with a series of wild punches.
Katebi moves out of range of the leg kick from Showman.
Showman takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Showman throws a right hand that Katebi ducks under and follows up with a left that Katebi also avoids with ease.

and Katebi counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Katebi slips a jab from Showman.
Katebi avoids the head kick by Showman.
Showman misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Katebi connects with a single shot there.
Gab Showman is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Showman misses with a jab, cross combination.
Katebi scores with a shot to the body.
Showman misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Showman is breathing heavily.
Katebi misses with an attempted mid kick.

Showman gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Katebi to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Katebi distracts Showman with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Katebi makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Showman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Katebi on the ground.
Katebi lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Katebi slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Katebi's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Katebi postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Katebi lands a couple of elbows.
Showman has momentary wrist control but Katebi slips an elbow through the middle.
Katebi is stalling in the full guard.
Katebi stands up over Showman, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Katebi advances position into side control!
Katebi is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Showman will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Katebi has hold of Showman's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Showman tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Katebi cranks the arm and Showman screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Showman, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
