PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Martin Minotauro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Psy Oppa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Minotauro's entrance music is Mc Alemão . A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Martin Minotauro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Psy Oppa!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Josh West and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Minotauro moves into the clinch.

Oppa breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Oppa has Minotauro up against the cage in a clinch.
Oppa goes for a takedown attempt but Minotauro pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Minotauro tries to close the distance and clinch but Oppa swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Oppa closes the distance and clinches.
Oppa prevents Minotauro from breaking the clinch.
Oppa unloads a knee to the mid-section. Minotauro lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Oppa escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Oppa shoots in for a takedown but Minotauro shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Minotauro misses with a hook. Oppa ducked under it nicely.
Minotauro shoots in looking for a takedown but Oppa manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Minotauro's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Minotauro throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Oppa's waist but Oppa gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Minotauro off to one side.

and Minotauro counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Oppa manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Minotauro passes into half guard.
Oppa is trying to maintain the position but Minotauro is very close to passing his half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Minotauro prevents Oppa from improving his position.
Oppa works his way to full guard. Good work.
Minotauro seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Martin Minotauro has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Oppa rushes Minotauro and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Oppa keeps control of Minotauro as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Minotauro shoots in looking for a takedown but Oppa manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Minotauro's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Martin Minotauro. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Minotauro.
Minotauro is breathing heavily.

Oppa drops Minotauro with a beautiful combination! Minotauro stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Oppa is looking for the KO!


It looks like Martin Minotauro has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Minotauro stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Minotauro wants it to stay on the feet.

Oppa shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Minotauro sprawls well. Minotauro wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Oppa gets slowly back to his feet.

Minotauro slaps away a takedown attempt from Oppa, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Minotauro keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Minotauro wants to clinch up but Oppa keeps it at a distance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Minotauro shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Oppa but Oppa pushes him off and we're back to square one.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Oppa moves into the clinch successfully.

Minotauro jumps guard and drags Oppa to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Minotauro looking for a guillotine here but Oppa defends easily.
Oppa throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Oppa is looking to stand up but Minotauro won't let him.
Oppa in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Oppa gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Oppa shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Minotauro as he jumps to the side.
Oppa throws a series of punches but Minotauro avoids them all with ease.

Oppa throws a head kick that half lands.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sloppy strikes from Minotauro. Those never looked like landing.
Minotauro falls off balance throwing a combination
and Oppa counters with a body kick that stops Minotauro in his tracks momentarily.

Oppa closes the distance and clinches.
Oppa is trying to drag Minotauro to the mat but Minotauro just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Oppa connects with a nasty looking knee right to Minotauro's face.
Oppa tries to score a body lock takedown but Minotauro shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Martin Minotauro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Psy Oppa.

Oppa's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Minotauro swinging wildly here.
Oppa throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Sloppy strikes from Oppa. Those never looked like landing.

Oppa darts in and clinches Minotauro up against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Oppa pulls guard successfully.
Minotauro working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Minotauro looking to sit in guard and control but Oppa gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Minotauro wants to stand up but Oppa is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Oppa pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Minotauro is keeping the position for now.

Minotauro is working an open guard so Oppa takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Oppa shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Minotauro eats them both and turns towards Oppa to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Minotauro takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Oppa misses with a takedown attempt - Minotauro sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Martin Minotauro is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Oppa.
Psy Oppa seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Oppa fails to land the takedown.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Minotauro leaves Oppa with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Psy Oppa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Minotauro scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Oppa doesn't seem bothered though.
Minotauro tries to score a power double leg takedown but Oppa sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Minotauro somewhat.
Oppa misses with a head kick.
Minotauro fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Minotauro scores with a kick to the body.
Oppa looks for a takedown but Minotauro sprawls well.

Oppa shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Minotauro napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Minotauro struggling a bit here.
Oppa fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Minotauro tries to bench press Oppa off him but Oppa keeps the position.
Oppa passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Minotauro!
Oppa sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Minotauro tries to hold on but Oppa postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Oppa throwing strikes here but Minotauro is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Minotauro tries to lock up and control but Oppa gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Oppa is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Minotauro can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Minotauro wants to hold on but Oppa pushes him away.

Minotauro avoids a series of strikes thrown by Oppa.

Oppa punching from mount but Minotauro doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Minotauro is desperately trying to improve his position but Oppa has a good base and remains in mount.
Oppa throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Oppa trying to control but Minotauro is having none of it.
Minotauro wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Oppa.
Psy Oppa is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Minotauro is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Oppa controlling the pace for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Oppa is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Minotauro to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Minotauro shrugs it off.

And that's the end of the fight!
Psy Oppa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Oppa has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
