Waters has chosen Hip Hop as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Marcos Duarte has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, Marcos Duarte!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, Derek Waters!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, John Kavanagh and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Waters blocks a jab.
Waters walks into a stiff left hand from Duarte.
Waters throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Waters takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Waters ducks under a wild hook from Duarte.
Duarte connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Waters momentarily.
Waters defending well as Duarte loads up on a big left hand.

Duarte changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Waters looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
An elbow from Duarte crashes against the mat.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Waters tries to buck Duarte off but Duarte is having none of it.
Duarte is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Duarte is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Waters has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duarte working away.

Duarte tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Waters is looking for a sweep.
Duarte connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Waters some visible discomfort.
Duarte is working Waters over with some ground and pound from side control.
Duarte tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Waters can't do much from the bottom here.
Duarte in side control lands a decent elbow.

Duarte tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Duarte wants to control for a moment but Waters uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Duarte in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Waters tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Duarte!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Marcos Duarte!
