PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Vincent Cuevas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rasheed Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: To the Top. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Vincent Cuevas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rasheed Walker!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Josh West and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Walker gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Walker works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Cuevas wants to stand and escape but Walker is having none of it.
Cuevas keeping moving, preventing Walker from controlling successfully.

Cuevas is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Walker throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cuevas works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Walker wants to control from the top but Cuevas keeps moving.
Cuevas pulls Walker in close to prevent any damage.
Cuevas controls Walker momentarily but Walker frees himself.

Walker trying to control the position from guard on top but Cuevas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Rasheed Walker.
Walker shoots in but Cuevas avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Cuevas swats away the attempt to clinch by Walker.
Cuevas swings away with a body shot that misses
and Walker counters with a nice kick to the body.
Walker throws a series of punches but Cuevas moves out of range.
No luck for Cuevas with that takedown attempt.
Cuevas shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Walker counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Walker tightens his grip and picks Cuevas up, before dumping him to the ground. Cuevas manages to land in guard.
Walker postures up in Cuevas's guard and throws a big left but Cuevas blocks it.

Walker trying to control but Cuevas is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Rasheed Walker.
Walker keeps the fight on the outside.
Cuevas fails with the takedown

and Walker counters with a single leg into guard. Cuevas didn't expect that.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vincent Cuevas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Walker looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Walker's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Cuevas had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Walker defends it easily.
Cuevas is breathing heavily.
Cuevas is pulling down on Walker's head to control his posture.
Walker sitting in guard, not really doing much.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Rasheed Walker wasn't active enough on the ground.
Cuevas wants to clinch
and Walker makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Cuevas gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Walker counters with a stiff right hand.

Walker throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cuevas tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Walker is in Cuevas's guard.

Cuevas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Walker gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Walker stands and steps away. Cuevas gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cuevas gets caught flat footed, as Walker shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Walker slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rasheed Walker dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Walker looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Cuevas looking to control.
Cuevas is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Walker is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Walker seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Walker stands up over Cuevas, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Walker is stalling in the full guard.
Walker won't allow Cuevas to sweep him here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Walker throws a head kick that misses.
No joy there for Cuevas, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Walker tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Walker gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Cuevas wants to break the clinch but can't.

Walker pulls guard successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cuevas lands a couple of digs.
Cuevas wants to control from the top but Walker keeps moving.
Walker is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Walker throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Cuevas preventing the sweep.
Walker has his hands on Cuevas's head, controlling the position.
Walker is breathing heavily.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Vincent Cuevas.
Cuevas shoots for a double leg takedown but Walker sprawls well. He's pushed Cuevas's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Cuevas will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

and Walker counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Walker.

Walker drops back looking for a leg! Cuevas is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cuevas manages to kick Walker off! Walker jumps back into Cuevas's guard.
Cuevas tries to land a sweep but no joy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Walker gets to his feet - Cuevas follows without any prompting.
Walker shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cuevas but Cuevas pushes him off and we're back to square one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rasheed Walker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Walker has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Cuevas.
Vincent Cuevas is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A combination from Cuevas does no damage.
Walker circles away from the clinch attempt.
Walker takes a swing at Cuevas's ribcage but misses.
Walker looks to throw a body kick
and Cuevas counters with a big head kick but Walker shrugs it off.
Walker fails with a takedown attempt.
Walker tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cuevas swivels and escapes.
Walker tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Cuevas throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Walker was covering up waiting for the punch and Cuevas finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cuevas wants to control from the top but Walker keeps moving.

Cuevas gets to his feet. Walker looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Walker tries to clinch but Cuevas is having none of it.
Walker fails with an attempt to clinch.
Cuevas looks to land a combination but Walker avoids it well.
Cuevas goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Walker shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cuevas pinned against the cage. Cuevas gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Vincent Cuevas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rasheed Walker.
Cuevas falls off balance throwing a combination

and Walker holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Walker is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Cuevas is defending well.

Cuevas misses with a hook to the ribs.

Cuevas lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Walker gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cuevas.

Walker scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Cuevas controls Walker momentarily but Walker frees himself.
Rasheed Walker has got the better of the ground game so far.
Walker seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Cuevas looking for a sweep. Not yet Cuevas, not yet.
Walker throws a strike but Cuevas rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Walker looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Walker holds on and takes a little breather.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rasheed Walker was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Walker moves to clinch but Cuevas breaks away

and Cuevas counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Walker's guard now.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Walker looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cuevas looking to pass the guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Vincent Cuevas showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Walker has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
