PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Yoshiaki Fujiwara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Curtis Enis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Curtis Enis was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yoshiaki Fujiwara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Curtis Enis!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Enis gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Fujiwara passes Enis's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Fujiwara uses his free foot to push down on Enis's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Enis.

Enis defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Fujiwara.
Fujiwara wants to take Enis's back here but Enis is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Fujiwara is working for a guillotine from mount but Enis frees his head quite easily.

Fujiwara has control of Enis's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Enis regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Enis is looking to get to half guard.

Fujiwara goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Enis turns into him and now he's in Fujiwara's guard.

Fujiwara pulls Enis in close to his closed guard and prevents Enis from doing any damage or advancing position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Fujiwara looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Fujiwara goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Enis turns into him and now he's in Fujiwara's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Enis wants to control from the top but Fujiwara keeps moving.
Fujiwara pulls Enis in close to prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Yoshiaki Fujiwara wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Fujiwara shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Enis sprawls well. Enis wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Fujiwara gets slowly back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fujiwara stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Fujiwara wants it to stay on the feet.
Fujiwara loads up on a big right hand but Enis slips the punch.

and Fujiwara counters with a nice double leg into side control. Enis won't be happy with that.

Fujiwara is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Enis is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Fujiwara tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fujiwara has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Fujiwara is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Enis knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A swing and a miss from Fujiwara.
Fujiwara throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Enis sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Enis gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Enis trying to hold on to Fujiwara's head to control him but Fujiwara postures up.

Fujiwara is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Enis is just riding it out for now. Fujiwara eventually gives up the hold.

Fujiwara is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Enis doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Fujiwara.

Fujiwara tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fujiwara has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Fujiwara tries to advance to mount but can't.

Fujiwara goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Enis has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Fujiwara but great work by Enis.
Fujiwara tries to bench press Enis off him but Enis keeps the position.
Enis is looking to take a break and control but Fujiwara is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Enis thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Fujiwara gets back to half guard.
Fujiwara keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Fujiwara manages to get to full guard.
Fujiwara pulls Enis in close to prevent any damage.
Fujiwara has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Fujiwara looking to hit a scissor sweep but Enis is one step ahead there.
Enis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Enis wants to control from the top but Fujiwara keeps moving.
Fujiwara is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Fujiwara is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fujiwara wants to free his trapped foot but Enis is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Fujiwara shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Enis is trying to defend but Fujiwara finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Fujiwara is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Fujiwara is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Enis sees it coming and defends easily.
Fujiwara has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Enis is looking to improve his position but Fujiwara isn't that keen on the idea.

Fujiwara with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Fujiwara swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Enis is now in Fujiwara's guard. A big mistake from Fujiwara there, giving up the dominant position!

Enis has gone for a leg lock! Fujiwara slips out almost immediately though and dives into Enis's guard.

Fujiwara postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Enis is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Fujiwara, into his guard.

Well Fujiwara has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
