The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Willan takes a jab right on the kisser.
Willan throws a leg kick that misses.

and Phillips counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Phillips misses with a knee strike.

Willan has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Phillips is trying to keep an underhook but Willan manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Willan looks to land a strike but Phillips avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Willan cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Willan swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Phillips is now in Willan's guard. A big mistake from Willan there, giving up the dominant position!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Phillips has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Willan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
