The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fargloom throws the kick towards the body but Alves avoids it.
Fargloom looks to throw the jab but Alves is out of range.
Fargloom throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Jack Fargloom seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alves misses with a takedown attempt
and Fargloom counters with a slapping leg kick.
Alves fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Fargloom misses with a right hand
and Alves connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Alves moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Alves misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Fargloom.
Fargloom throws a leg kick but Alves sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Alves tries to move into range but Fargloom moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Fargloom wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Fargloom throws the left hand but Alves avoids the punch easily.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Fargloom tries to buck Alves off but Alves is having none of it.

Alves is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Fargloom knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alves working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alves uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Fargloom has time to react.

Alves feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Alves has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fargloom can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Alves bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Fargloom's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters circle momentarily. Alves darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Alves misses with a hook. Fargloom ducked under it nicely.

Fargloom takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Fargloom throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Alves shoots in looking for a takedown. Fargloom tries to sprawl out of it but Alves keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fargloom manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Jack Fargloom has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Alves crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Fargloom - the referee stops the clock and Alves gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Fargloom. Alves manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
