PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Grimly Fiendish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Braden Turk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Turk is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Status Quo - Deeper and Down. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Braden Turk was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Grimly Fiendish!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Braden Turk!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fiendish shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Turk manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Fiendish trying to control the position from guard on top but Turk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Turk avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Turk is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Fiendish missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Turk is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Fiendish desperately trying to maintain half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Turk connects with a nice short shot to Fiendish's temple.
Fiendish avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Turk.

Turk escapes and gets back to his feet.

Turk forces Fiendish back against the cage and clinches.
Turk lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Turk misses with a short punch on the inside.
Turk scores with a nice hook to the head.
Fiendish changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Turk fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Jab, jab by Fiendish - just one landing.

Turk has Fiendish up against the cage in a clinch.
Turk can't find room to land a body shot as Fiendish controls the action.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Turk.
Fiendish misses with a hook from the clinch.
Fiendish has Turk pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Turk manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Fiendish wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Turk has him pressed against the cage.

Fiendish's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Fiendish is trying to break the clinch but Turk has him pressed against the cage.
Fiendish is looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Grimly Fiendish. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Turk creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Fiendish's defenses.
Turk is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Fiendish gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Turk misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Turk can't get the takedown.
Fiendish can't break the clinch.

Fiendish pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Good exchange - Turk coming out on top.
Turk circles away from the clinch attempt.
Turk misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Fiendish.
Turk looks to score with a jab to the body but Fiendish is just out of range.
Turk's jab looks to have found its range, popping Fiendish under the eye.
Braden Turk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fiendish on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Turk misses with the combination.
Turk bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
No luck for Fiendish with that takedown attempt.
Fiendish has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Fiendish there as he acknowledges the shot.

Fiendish scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Turk connects with a single shot there.
Turk digs a good body shot into Fiendish's ribs.
Fiendish avoids the body shot from Turk.
Turk swings for the body but Fiendish moves out of range.
Turk is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Fiendish rather than just go for the knockout.
Turk uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Fiendish has time to react.
Turk is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Fiendish is looking to clinch.
Turk takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Turk shoots in but no luck this time.
Turk looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Fiendish checks the leg kick nicely there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Braden Turk dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Fiendish takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Turk throws a jab but it's blocked by Fiendish.
Fiendish tries to clinch there but Turk circles away.

Fiendish pushes Turk up against the cage in a clinch.
Fiendish gets underhooks to prevent Turk's takedown attempt.
Fiendish tries to break free but Turk pushes him back against the cage.
Fiendish avoids the elbow strike from Turk, against the cage.
Fiendish blocks an uppercut.

Turk jumps into guard, dragging Fiendish to the mat.
Turk is trying to control the position but Fiendish postures up.

Fiendish is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Turk looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Fiendish looking to pass the guard.

Fiendish loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Fiendish wants to control from the top but Turk keeps moving.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A shot to the liver by Fiendish. Beautiful body shot.

and Fiendish connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Turk shoots in and gets a takedown into Fiendish's guard.
Fiendish looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Turk accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Turk pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fiendish is keeping the position for now.

Turk throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Fiendish works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Turk accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Turk throws an elbow that misses. Fiendish uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Turk's guard. Nice move by Fiendish!
Turk manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Turk lands a nice shot to the head.
Fiendish is looking to get to half guard.
Turk landing strikes from the mount and Fiendish is in trouble!

Fiendish is working to get back to half guard.
Turk trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Turk thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Turk has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Turk has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Fiendish's face.
Turk thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Braden Turk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Fiendish misses the shot to the body.
The fight stays on the outside here - Turk looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Turk connects with a good right hand that stumbles Fiendish. Fiendish circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Fiendish tries to clinch but Turk is having none of it.

Fiendish shoots in for a takedown but Turk shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Turk thows a body shot but no joy.

Turk throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Fiendish tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Turk is in Fiendish's guard.

Fiendish has momentary wrist control but Turk slips an elbow through the middle.

Fiendish is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Turk throws an elbow that misses. Fiendish uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Turk's guard. Nice move by Fiendish!
Fiendish might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Fiendish wants to pass the guard but Turk is keeping the position.
Turk looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Fiendish sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Turk's guard.
Turk trying to hold on to Fiendish's head to control him but Fiendish postures up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Fiendish is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Turk slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Fiendish trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Turk looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Fiendish avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Fiendish trying to control the position from guard on top but Turk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Fiendish throws a big right hand that misses.
Braden Turk is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Turk managing to control the position.
Fiendish postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Grimly Fiendish has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Turk seems keen to control Fiendish's posture.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Fiendish checks the leg kick nicely there.
Fiendish takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Turk throws out a loose jab but Fiendish uses good head movement to avoid it.
A telegraphed right hand from Turk misses the target.
Turk wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Fiendish wants to clinch
and Turk counters with a leg kick.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Turk shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fiendish but Fiendish pushes him off and we're back to square one.

And that's the end of the fight!
Braden Turk comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Turk has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
