PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bane Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Colt Milner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bane Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Colt Milner!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Milner as he avoids it easily.

Jones closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Jones is working Milner over with some ground and pound from side control.
Milner wants to control but Jones postures up.
Jones taking a breather here.
Jones working the strikes but Milner uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Milner tries to get to full guard but Jones has control of the leg.
Jones takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Jones is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Jones tries to pass to full mount but Milner defends it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Milner keeping control of the position.
Milner is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard.
Jones tries to pass the half guard into mount. Milner knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Milner pushes Jones off looking to stand but Jones dives back in and keeps control.
Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Milner keeps working.

We're going to have a standup here because Bane Jones wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Jones manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Milner on his heels. He'll look to pass Milner's guard now, I'm sure.
Milner is trying to keep Jones in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones trying to control but Milner is working from the bottom.
Jones not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Milner pulls Jones in close to prevent any damage.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Milner checks a low kick from Jones.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Jones.
Jones doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Milner counters by clinching up.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bane Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Milner pulls Jones into guard.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Milner swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Milner lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jones!
Milner tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Jones tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Milner thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Milner working away from the top, dropping strikes.

Jones avoids a series of strikes thrown by Milner.
Milner can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jones is looking to escape.
Milner scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Milner content just to control the position here.
Jones tries to hold on but Milner postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Milner working the ground and pound effectively.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bane Jones will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Milner tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Milner stuffs the takedown attempt from Jones. Jones gets slowly back to his feet.
Milner is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Jones dives in and grabs Milner's left leg, looking for a takedown. Milner pushes down on Jones's head and hops out.

Bane Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Milner stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Milner wants it to stay on the feet.

Jones tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Milner manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Milner shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jones as he avoids it easily.

Jones stalling.
Jones seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Milner for as long as he can get away with.
Jones is nestled in close to Milner, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Milner is trying to get back to full guard.
Jones drops an elbow to the side of Milner's head.
Jones sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Jones moves into full mount! Milner won't be happy about that!
Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Milner on the ground.

Jones prevents Milner from getting the reversal.
Jones avoids the attempt from Milner to control.
Jones controlling the pace for now.
Jones trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Jones looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Milner wants to control but Jones is having none of it.
Jones takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Bane Jones has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Milner avoids the head kick by Jones.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bane Jones dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Jones throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Milner was covering up waiting for the punch and Jones finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Jones is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Milner bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jones's guard.
Milner tries to stand but Jones is controlling from the bottom.
Milner looking to pass the guard.
Jones has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Milner won't allow Jones to sweep him here.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Milner trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.
Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Colt Milner was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Milner gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Milner is trying to break the clinch but Jones is controlling him.
Jones keeps control of Milner as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones tries to throw a body punch but Milner avoids it by throwing Jones back against the cage.
Milner is trying to pull guard but Jones turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Jones has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Milner clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Jones lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Milner.
Milner tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Milner wants to control but Jones is having none of it.
Milner regains half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jones seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Milner does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Milner tries to roll over but Jones keeps him under control.
Bane Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jones trying to pass the guard but Milner defending well.
Milner keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Milner moves into full guard.
Jones throws a big elbow that misses.
Jones wants to control from the top but Milner keeps moving.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Milner had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jones defends it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Milner is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Jones controlling from the top position.
Milner is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Colt Milner has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bane Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bane Jones.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jones, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
