PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Doran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Duquette (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duquette has chosen Angels Never Die as his entrance music. Doran has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tommy Doran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve Duquette!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duquette tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Doran swivels and escapes.
Doran looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Duquette creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Doran sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Duquette really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Doran. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Doran takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Duquette has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Duquette feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Duquette decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Doran, up you get!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Duquette winds up and cracks Doran with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Duquette thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Doran's head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That's time! Doran's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Duquette goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
The fight stays on the outside here - Duquette looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Duquette is trying hard to land a takedown here. Doran sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Duquette lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Doran sprawling to the canvas. Duquette follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Doran hang on?

It looks like Tommy Doran has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Duquette is trying to control. Doran wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Oh Doran is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Duquette lands a nice short elbow.
It looks like Duquette is going to stand back up.

Duquette is keen to just control but Doran is a slippery customer.

Duquette has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Doran is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Tommy Doran has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Duquette.
Duquette has Doran pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Doran manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Duquette changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Doran fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Doran fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Duquette avoids it really well and circles away.

Doran is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Duquette is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Duquette must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Duquette makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Duquette got a little sloppy there for a moment and Doran has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Duquette has managed to get both his arms back between Doran's legs - danger averted.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Doran isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Duquette stacks Doran on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Duquette!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Duquette showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Duquette tries to clinch but Doran is having none of it.
Duquette throws a right and a left that both miss.

Tommy Doran is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Duquette tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Doran manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Duquette throws a right and a left that Doran avoids nicely.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Doran shoots in for a takedown but Duquette shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Duquette is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Some bone on bone action there as Doran checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Doran bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Duquette's guard.
Steve Duquette is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well Duquette has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
